Job Description

Garforth Care Homes is a small, family-owned provider, with two care homes side by side St Armand's Court (for those with General Residential Care needs) and The Hollies (for those with dementia care needs). We are looking for a new deputy manager (Non-clinical) to complement our long-standing staff team, due to internal promotions within the business.

The successful person will already be a deputy manager, or a strong senior care assistant with ambition and a willingness to learn. We would like the deputy to be able to lead the team effectively, boost care standards and support the manager with compliance within the home.

The role is fully supernumerary with the expectation to cover staff absences, as a senior care assistant, from time to time.

Person specification



The ideal candidate will have:

experience of dementia care, as the role will involve working with residents who may struggle to express their needs, and supporting staff with distraction techniques and coaching them with alternative approaches.

have thorough and in-depth knowledge of medication management from ordering to change-over and everything in between

be qualified to Level 3 and a willingness to work towards level 4/5

already be a deputy/ unit manager with established work history within care homes, or an ambitious senior care assistant looking to progress

be willing to support and mentor staff to achieve high standards

willing to participate in the on-call rota and be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business

Job description



Key duties will include:

Ensure all staff members contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the Home, and to the creation of an atmosphere conductive to the best interests of residents.

Assist the Registered Home Manager to reach full regulatory compliance with all agencies and assist with the preparation for inspection, and with those inspections.

Take the lead, in the absence of the Registered Home Manager, for all regulatory and compliance requirements, send necessary notifications to CQC and promote Duty of Candour.

Ensure the service provision meets the CQC fundamental standards and is safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.

Communication and Key Relationships



Interact with residents to ensure that their health care needs are being met and resolve any problems making appropriate referral.

Assist and support staff to assess and identify the needs of the residents and to develop comprehensive, person -centred care plans which meet those needs.

Report any ill-health amongst residents and make requests for GP/Health Professional visits where necessary.

Liaise with GPs/Health Professionals in order to establish positive working relationships.

Maintain effective communications with the Registered Home Manager using regular meetings, reviews, supervision and appraisal.

Promote positive relationships with all stakeholders through being friendly, approachable and proactive

Quality



Lead and guide the team to deliver care and support of the highest quality.

Ensure meals are of sufficient quantity and good quality, and that nutritional needs are met.

Manage all aspects of medication in the home as per Policies and Procedures.

Support and assist the Registered Home Manager in the audit process for the home for all areas and ensure timescales are met.

Assist the Registered Home Manager to implement the incident and accident reporting process, contribute to analysis and remedial actions.

Ensure a clear and concise handover report is implemented at the change of shift.

Arrange and participate in resident multi disciplinary team health review meetings.

Assist with safe recruitment.

Training & Development:



Organise and deliver the induction programme for all new staff. Supervise and support them in all aspects of their role.

Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence, using evidence based best practice and attend training.

Assist the Registered Home Manager to organise and deliver mandatory training sesions for all staff, on or off site, keeping clear records.

Financial:



Assist the Registered Home Manager meet financial budgets by working in defined boundaries.

Positively promote the home to maximise admissions.

Line Management:



Assist with all aspects of staff management, mentoring, supervision, appraisal, absence, whistleblowing and professional development.

Ensure that confidentiality, dignity, respect and a person centred approach is embedded in the culture of the staff group.

Undertake duties/shifts as required. Lead, coach, motivate and guide staff to achieve positive outcomes for all residents.

Ensure there is a four-week rota available to all staff that ensures appropriate levels of staffing which reflects occupancy and dependency levels.

Other responsibilities



Ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times.

Implement all organisational policies and procedures and participate in reviews.

Adhere to and uphold GCH policies, challenging staff who may fall short of these values

Assist with any other duties the Registered Home Manager assigns to the role of Deputy Home Manager

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 29,000.00 per year
