The Deputy Foundation School Director (FSD) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running and success of the Foundation School, particularly in maintaining high standards for the education and support of trainees. This role requires a strong leadership capacity, the ability to manage and support teams, and a deep understanding of both the educational and pastoral needs of foundation doctors.
The Deputy FSD will help to develop the strategic direction and quality management of the Foundation school and support in the delivery of a wide range of functions relating to Foundation training in Wales.
The Deputy FSD is a key member of the foundation school and is accountable to the FSD and the Postgraduate Dean. Supported by a Foundation School Manager (FSM) and appropriate administrative staff, the Deputy FSD will lead the trainee progression workstream within the Foundation School and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of foundation doctors in training, including pastoral and educational support.
The Deputy FSD will be required to deputise for the FSD, as necessary, taking on leadership and decision-making duties in their absence.

Main duties of the job
The Deputy Foundation School Director will:
Advise and assist the Director on all matters relating to Foundation training.
Lead on the trainee progression workstream providing pastoral and educational support to Foundation Doctors and Foundation Programme Directors.
Work closely with the manager for trainee progression to implement and review processes to manage Foundation Doctors who are: working Less than full time (LTFT), out of sync, or have been absent from training.
Oversee the Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) process.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
