Job Description

Fleetwood Town Football Club are looking for a Deputy Head Groundsperson to lead the Grounds Maintenance Department.

To support the Head Groundsman in maintaining and developing all playing surfaces and associated grounds across Fleetwood Town Football Club's facilities, including Highbury Stadium and Poolfoot Farm. The Deputy Head Groundsman will assist in leading the grounds team to ensure high standards of pitch quality and operational efficiency, while stepping up in the Head Groundsman's absence.

Key responsibilities (but not limited to):



Assist in maintaining high-quality playing surfaces across Highbury Stadium and Poolfoot Farm. Support the Head Groundsman in planning and executing seasonal pitch maintenance and renovations. Aid in matchday pitch preparations, including mowing, line marking, and presenting the pitch to professional standards. Monitor and record pitch conditions and usage to help inform maintenance schedules. Supervise and direct the work of grounds staff as delegated by the Head Groundsman. Help create and manage staff rotas and task allocations. Support in the training and development of junior staff and apprentices. Operate grounds machinery and equipment safely and efficiently; report faults and perform routine maintenance. Contribute to maintaining health and safety standards, including assisting with risk assessments. Maintain accurate records of tasks, treatments, and machinery servicing as required. Work collaboratively with coaching and operations staff to support fixture and training requirements. Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the 4G pitches at Poolfoot Farm. Deputise for the Head Groundsman when required, including liaising with senior club staff and external contractors. Travel between both club sites as part of day-to-day responsibilities

Requirements:



Essential



NVQ Level 2 or above in Sports Turf Maintenance (working towards Level 3 preferred). Experience maintaining natural and synthetic sports surfaces, ideally in a professional sports setting. Competent in the use of sports turf maintenance equipment and machinery. Understanding of irrigation, drainage, and pitch repair practices. Good communication and leadership potential. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and schedules. Full UK driving licence. Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and matchdays.

Desirable



NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent. PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates. Prior experience in a professional football club or equivalent elite sports environment..
