We are seeking an experienced and passionate Deputy Nursery Manager to support the day-to-day running of a high-quality early years setting. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader who is committed to delivering outstanding care and education and supporting a dedicated staff team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Nursery Manager with all aspects of the nursery's operational management.
Ensure high standards of care, education, and compliance with statutory frameworks including the EYFS and safeguarding requirements.
Lead and support staff in planning, observing, and assessing children in line with EYFS standards.
Promote inclusive practices and ensure individual children's needs are met.
Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (or support the DSL), ensuring all children are protected and staff follow procedures confidently.
Contribute to developing and implementing policies, ensuring they are understood and followed by all staff.
Maintain a culture of self-reflection and continuous improvement throughout the setting.
Lead by example and support the training, development, and appraisal of the staff team.
Support in managing health and safety, ensuring the environment is clean, safe, and stimulating.
Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies.
Assist with administrative tasks such as rotas, recruitment, and maintaining accurate records.
Step up in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
Essential Requirements
A minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent.
At least 2 years' experience in a senior role such as Room Leader or Third-in-Charge.
Excellent working knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, and SEND practices.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to motivate, coach, and support staff.
Confident in dealing with parents, external professionals, and regulatory bodies.
Desirable Qualifications
Level 5 qualification in Early Years Leadership or Management.
Paediatric First Aid
Designated Safeguarding Lead training
Food Hygiene Level 2
Safer Recruitment and Prevent Duty Training
SENDCo experience or training
Familiarity with digital learning platforms (e.g., Tapestry, FAMLY)
