Deputy Manager - Learning and Skills (London and Surrounding areas)
Responsible to:
Head of Outreach (London and Surrounding areas)
Term-time only + additional weeks.
Main purpose of the role
This is a quality assurance role with responsibility for overseeing the progress and outcomes for each pupil, ensuring all teaching and learning is based upon secure initial assessment leading to:
Appropriate programmes of learning
Lessons observations, monitoring quality, engagement and outcomes
Ensuring appropriate entry for accredited qualifications is tailored to individual needs.
Presenting secure data to demonstrate progression throughout the time young people are at EK Outreach Services.
Have a sound up to date knowledge of a range of accreditations at all levels with different awarding bodies and the ability to use this knowledge to respond to learners' individual needs.
Tracking and monitoring progress and attainment.
The role holder will:
Work closely with other members of the Management Team.
Line manage all Heads of Departments, and be responsible for examination and administration.
Have a senior teaching position and may teach for up to two days a week.
Duties and responsibilities
Leading on Learning and Assessment
Manage and develop effective working relationships with all staff and lead weekly meetings followed by 1-to-1 meetings with Subject Coordinators.
Update the Outreach Manager on the effectiveness of provision for pupils.
Work with the Outreach Manager each year on creating and updating relevant policies and procedures.
Lead on and support Curriculum Coordinators with staff lesson observations, review meetings and outcomes.
Administer and Oversee Baseline data, EKOS Subject CSRF's and exam entries and mark books.
Lead on Exam Management and Preparations across the Centres, ensuring up to date data. This includes oversight of Mock exam periods, including constructing a timetable for the Mock Exam Period.
Hold meetings to ensure quality assurance monitoring is effectively managed throughout the Centres.
Recording and Assessment
Work with subject Coordinators to set effective targets and develop processes for raising achievement for all pupils.
Monitor and evaluate learning, achievement and attainment throughout the provision.
Record impact of interventions and strategies used.
Monitor the delivery of systematic teaching of basic skills and life skills, as well as pupils' ability to work independently.
Use provision management for identifying, assessing and reviewing pupil progress and tracking progress towards targets set, identifying underachievement and addressing needs. Ensure appropriate action plans are in place where issues are identified.
Monitor learning and teaching activities to ensure that objectives and targets set through lesson planning meet the needs of pupils.
Review short and long-term planning to ensure coverage, progression and a range of learning experiences throughout the provision.
Support the development of collaborative approaches to learning. Ensure staff share the aims of the provision in promoting a high quality of learning and outcomes.
Exam Management
Construct an Exam Timetable for summer exams.
Allocate mentors and MLT to said exams.
Be aware of location of student's exams (home/Centre), and prepare accordingly.
Ensure all staff members are given Briefcase and Invigilator training.
Prepare exam folder on EKOS Drive with all relevant student information for exam entry, including student's special requirements.
Responsible for taking papers out from designated area, and returned to the Centre to be sent to relevant exam bodies.
Ensure all Form 9's, AAO's and all examination forms are completed.
Keep regular contact with exam boards for specific students requirements, such as beyond the stipulated access arrangement.
Developing Staff and Teaching Commitment
Act as a role model of good practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies and developing teaching SEN interventions with them.
Coach and mentor staff where appropriate and lead by example to motivate them and enable them work effectively with others through CPD workshops and INSET.
Where appropriate, provide in lesson support together with Subject Coordinators for colleagues through demonstration, lessons, team teaching, observation and feedback.
Carry out teaching duties as agreed by the Outreach Manager (London and surrounding areas) providing a model of excellence for colleagues.
Taking full responsibility for cover where needed.
Ensure portal is up to date and being used consistently. Regular checks and reports will be needed.
Monitor Curriculum drive and the work produced in each subject area.
Deal with staff absences and any issues which may arise.
Ensure subject curriculums, schemes of work and resources are in place.
Ensure work scrutiny is carried out termly.
Have oversight of PSHE, RSE and IT curriculums being embedded into everyday learning.
Work with other Assistant Managers to ensure that the TES training and development portal is being used.
Preparing and Presenting Reports
Analyse school, local and national data against our provisions to advise the Head of Outreach on the level of resources required to maximise achievement for pupils.
Prepare and present reports as required to the Outreach Manager.
Ensure all Centres are prepared for OFSTED and Quality Assurance inspections from Local Authorities.
Training and Development
Participate in recruitment and appointment of teachers/mentors and have a clear understanding of the professional duties and lead on staff and resourcing.
Undertake Safer Recruitment training to ensure our staff meet the rigorous standards required.
With the Outreach Manager (London and surrounding areas) lead the development and training and support for staff including identifying and disseminating the most effective learning and teaching approaches.
Contribute to our Annual Development Day
Consistently monitor Ofsted, DfE and Examination changes nationally.
Candidate Requirements
:
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status or Equivalent
Willingness to extend personal and professional development
At least three years' experience as a senior leader
Previous experience with Exam management.
Previous work with children and young people with SEND.
Preferred
SENCO qualification
NPQSL / NPQML
