Vacancy: Deputy Manager Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue
Join the Team!!
Are you looking for an opportunity to work with our local wild mammals in a role that directly affects their survival? Our local species and nature as a whole is in trouble in our largely rural county
This is a vocational role and we are offering a unique learning and work experience for someone who wishes to get to grips with the treatment of wildlife, from their rescue, triage and rehabilitation through to their release.
Wildlife rehabilitation is still in its infancy and you will receive CPD training through Vale Wildlife Hospital and complete their intensive 1 day `First Aid, Care and Rehabilitation of Hedgehogs` in Tewkesbury and go on to complete the Secret World of Wildlife Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release course including their practical day in Tewkesbury. Training fees and travel expenses will be paid by the charity.
The rewards are extraordinary and our whole team are in a terribly privileged role; we find this makes up for our voluntary status. You would need a strong stomach and be prepared to have days when you clean out cages, remove external parasites and search for internal parasites under the microscope.
You will receive an induction and have hands on experience in how to triage, treat and rehabilitate wild mammals; it is a special opportunity to gain experience with British wildlife in a registered ICO charity at a time when we are about to expand and develop our species intake and start our fundraiser to build a purpose built wild mammal hospital for west Cornwall
The hours are ad hoc and sessional to cover and deputise for our Founder and Managing Director by arrangement.
You will be vital to our work because without our team we would not exist. Our charity values are unconditional positive regard, congruence and empathy; we endeavour to raise awareness and we exist to rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs and small wild mammals back to the wild where they belong. We also carry out actions to conserve habitats and engage children and communities and carry out awareness raising activities, working closely with our vets and other wildlife organisations
If you are over 18 and are passionate about our troubled wildlife and want to make a real difference we would love you to join our ever growing team.
Previous experience of clinical, organisational, wildlife conservation or care skills would be advantageous but not absolutely necessary. A sense of humour is essential.
If you would like to apply for this role, please do send an email with a copy of your CV to hedgepigsandhoglets@gmail.com and we will provide you with more information and the opportunity for an informal chat and potentially interview
