JOB TITLE: DEPUTY MANAGER \xe2\x80\x93 Subsea & Pipelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

\xc2\xb7 Manages and is responsible for the Subsea and Pipelines Team, with the guidance of the Group Manager Sub-Sea and Pipelines, including resourcing of personnel, troubleshooting technical issues, influencing technical decisions arising from these issues.

\xc2\xb7 The Deputy Manager Subsea & Pipelines Team will have responsibilities for the following (with the guidance and support from the Group Manager Subsea & Pipelines):

\xc2\xb7 Deputizing for Head of Department when required.

\xc2\xb7 Management of the Subsea & Pipelines team of engineers from G14 up to G21 as they execute paid work, and non-paid work such as BD support, proposals, and/or tendering support to the corporate Proposals department. The department work will include design of onshore flowlines and pipelines and facilities layout, and offshore flowlines, pipelines and subsea facilities related to Oil & Gas, CO2 disposal and New Energies (including Hydrogen).

\xc2\xb7 Ensuring the team meets its delivery objectives through selection and training of competent engineers.

\xc2\xb7 Resourcing of personnel

\xc2\xb7 Resolution of personnel matters that arise in the team.

\xc2\xb7 Troubleshooting technical issues

\xc2\xb7 Influencing technical, commercial and HR related decisions arising from the above.

\xc2\xb7 Assist the Group Manager with BD activities.

\xc2\xb7 Development of Subsea & Pipelines primary goals, operating plans, policies, and short and long-term objectives, agreeing these with the Group Manager of Subsea & Pipelines and then implementation of them.

\xc2\xb7 The jobholder will also be responsible for interacting with the VP, Operations Director, Engineering Manager, other Group Managers, Discipline Engineers, Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Project Controls, Client and vendor representatives, Commissioning & Construction personnel, and subcontractor representatives.

\xc2\xb7 Makes decisions and allocates appropriate manpower for the preparation of proposals and for the execution of concept studies, FEED and detailed engineering on projects.

\xc2\xb7 Manages the technical competence of the discipline.

\xc2\xb7 Manage and ensure the quality of project deliverables. This includes responsibility for maintaining processes and procedures, along with ensuring recommendations are made to improve a process or a procedure.

\xc2\xb7 Runs sessions on lessons learnt, bringing together people\xe2\x80\x99s views and findings, conducts and report on lessons learned on projects and decide whether any work processes need modifying.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for shortlisting candidates and conducting interviews with potential new hires, both staff and contract, and deciding on hiring recommendations, agree with the Group Manager Subsea & Pipelines.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for deciding on new permanent and contract staff hires.

\xc2\xb7 Decides on and agrees training plans for staff engineers to ensure competency, drives the training plans forward.

\xc2\xb7 Makes decisions pertaining to project documents, specifically technical content, conclusions, and recommendations.

\xc2\xb7 Agree on project nominations.

\xc2\xb7 Act as a day-to-day interface with the Subsea & Pipelines team on departmental administration and project issues. Guide and lead the team on any issues that arise, make decisions, and find solutions.

\xc2\xb7 Hold & lead regular departmental meetings to ensure projects are running on schedule and on budget.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for the reporting of performance, both at a service line level and individual projects

\xc2\xb7 Participate in preparation of proposals, including execution statements, man-hour and cost estimates, and client clarifications.

\xc2\xb7 Actively support and help lead customer meetings in the business acquisition process.

\xc2\xb7 Raise issues of concern, development, and improvement.

\xc2\xb7 If required, supervises, and manages a group of professionals or technical staff either as a Study Manager or a Lead Engineer in addition to corporate departmental responsibilities.

\xc2\xb7 Manages and mentors Subsea & Pipelines staff within the department, ensuring competency is assessed and maintained.

\xc2\xb7 Accountable for ensuring overall project margins by hiring competent staff (permanent and contract) at a market aligned rate.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for preparing proposals that offer technically and commercially competitive solutions, whilst yielding acceptable profit margins.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for delivering the Subsea & Pipelines scope on projects with a value of approximately $500,000, depending on project scope.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for meeting cost targets on projects as Lead Engineer or Study Manager

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for negotiating contract staff rates to fit into ECS rate structure.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for providing input into the training requirements and costs for the overall ECS budget.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for assigning the right people to various projects. This is a complex task with the need to balance the availability of the right people with changing project start dates.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for ensuring that the competency of the engineers is maintained through a combination of training and project work.

\xc2\xb7 Provides technical guidance to engineers as required. This could range from assistance with facilities layouts or pipeline routing, mechanical calculations through to purchase recommendations.

\xc2\xb7 Decides on the most appropriate project nominations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

\xc2\xb7 Exposure to consultancy, FEED / detailed design, and EPC projects

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of safety and quality procedures and best practice

\xc2\xb7 Competency in specific area(s) of engineering activity, scheduling, and discipline work priorities

\xc2\xb7 Typically holds a master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

\xc2\xb7 Chartered status preferred.

\xc2\xb7 Significant related project management experience working for engineering / client organizations in the oil and gas / new energies industry.

\xc2\xb7 Coordination, monitoring, supervisory & management skills

\xc2\xb7 Good communication and presentation skills

\xc2\xb7 Tactful in resolving issues.
