Children are born curious--natural investigators with boundless imagination. At Clarence House, guided by the Curiosity Approach, we nurture that spark. We create environments where children feel confident to explore, discover, and direct their own learning.
As our Deputy Nursery Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in bringing this ethos to life. You'll work closely with the Nursery Manager to create a setting where curiosity thrives, where staff feel supported and inspired, and where children are empowered to think independently.
This role is perfect for someone who leads with heart, values collaboration, and thrives in an environment where every day brings new opportunities to shape practice and culture.
What You'll Achieve
In your first 6 months, you will:
Build strong relationships with children, families, and your team.
Support the embedding of Curiosity Approach principles across the nursery.
Take ownership of key areas of practice, helping to drive high-quality child-led learning.
Become a trusted and calming presence someone staff turn to for guidance, reassurance, and inspiration.
Within your first year, you will:
Confidently lead the nursery in the Manager's absence, maintaining consistency and warmth.
Coach and mentor practitioners, helping them grow in confidence, reflection, and professional curiosity.
Contribute to the continuous development of practice, environments, and routines that place children at the centre.
See your impact reflected in calmer spaces, engaged children, and a team that feels supported, valued, and motivated.
About You
You are:
Passionate about early childhood and aligned with the Curiosity Approach ethos.
A reflective practitioner who leads by example--with kindness, patience, and purpose.
Qualified to Level 3 (or above) in Early Years, with experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or existing Deputy.
Confident in supporting both pedagogy and practice, with a strong understanding of safeguarding, compliance, and operational routines.
Someone who loves working collaboratively, bringing ideas to life, and lifting others up.
Please note this position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and applicants are therefore required to disclose all spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings that are not protected under the DBS filtering rules.
