About the Role
As a Team Leader, you will take an active leadership role during shifts--modelling best practice, supporting colleagues, and ensuring consistent, high-quality care. You will help create a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment, preparing for progression into Deputy Management with mentoring, increased responsibilities, and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Care Leadership and Support for Young People
Support children in developing emotional regulation, independence, and life skills
Build trusting relationships and lead keyworking sessions
Monitor Placement Plans and Risk Assessments
Champion trauma-informed care and promote consistent routines
Work collaboratively with professionals, schools, and families
Shift Management and Team Guidance
Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth shift handovers
Allocate roles and provide support to team members
Mentor junior staff and agency workers
Foster a supportive and reflective team culture
Safeguarding and Incident Oversight
Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and lead incident debriefs
Monitor risks such as absconding, CSE, and bullying
Maintain detailed and accurate records
Organisation and Compliance
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards
Audit logs, reports, medication records, and keywork documentation
Manage petty cash, stock levels, and household safety checks
Support inspections and internal audits
Communication and Reporting
Collaborate closely with social workers, schools, and external professionals
Provide updates to senior leaders
Participate in team meetings and planning
Training and Development
Complete mandatory training and promote team learning
Encourage best practice through ongoing reflection and discussion
Begin taking on Deputy-level responsibilities with support
Additional Operational Duties
Coordinate external appointments and daily logistics
Assist in planning activities and routines
Support household tasks to maintain structure and consistency
What We're Looking For
Minimum of 2 years' experience in residential childcare or a related setting
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards)
Confident leadership skills and effective problem-solving abilities
Strong communication and organisational skills
Resilient, reflective, and child-centred approach
Full UK driving licence preferred
