Our brand new nursery is growing with new babies joining our nursery family. Due to increasing numbers on roll, we are ready to recruit our next deputy leader to support the smooth running of the room.

Our new nursery is the talk of Ryedale, with expansive outdoor areas and incredible indoor environments it provides an exceptional working environment.

Hours

:

40 hours

arranged over 4 days (Monday to Friday) to include occasional attendance at out of hours events such as open evenings, open days or occasional weekends at the request of the managing director.

Support with ensuring the delivery of an effective childcare programme within the nursery. To be responsible (in the absence of the room leader) for ensuring that the room is organised to fulfil the requirements of the specific age group within the nursery guidelines and policy.

Main duties of role:

Below is a list of tasks and responsibilities that the Nursery Room Supervisor is responsible for. As deputy room supervisor, you will support with these responsibilities and in the absence of the room supervisor you will take full responsibility.

1. To supervise staff and students in your area of responsibility and to ensure that they adhere to

nursery's policies and procedures

2. To ensure the health, safety and well being of all the children within your care

3. To organise and plan a programme of activities to suit the children's stage of development whilst promoting positive behaviour.

4. To build trusting relationships with all parents, taking appropriate and prompt action on any

concern's raised and to encourage their active participation in the activities of the nursery

5. To ensure that there is proper supervision at mealtimes and that any special dietary requirements are met.

6. To lead and encourage the staff to work in a team environment including attendance of staff

meeting's and additional training, and to ensure maximum participation.

7. To provide assistance to the effective induction for new members of staff following the guidelines and using the resources provided by the nursery; liaising with the Nursery Manager on performance and progress during the probationary period

8. To recognise and develop staff working in your area through regular feedback, observation, supervision and organising peer observation.

9. To ensure the children's' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is fostered

appropriately.

11. To keep and maintain up to date and accurate records and reports. Your responsibility

Includes : room registers; health & safety checks; ongoing ; ILPP's;

accident and incident forms; medication forms.

12. To ensure that staff maintain a safe and clean environment and to liaise with the

Nursery Manager in connection with health and safety matters.

13. To ensure that the area is sufficiently stocked to cater for the needs of the children in your care

This should include all hygiene equipment, resources, paperwork blank proforma's.

14. To ensure that all other staff working under your supervision keep up to date with their

administrative responsibilities, including all paperwork required within children's learning

journey folders.

15. To keep management updated on room matters, producing and providing a termly report to

management.

16. To be a key holder for the nursery.

17. To ensure windows and doors and the room in general is secure at the end of the day.

14. To keep abreast of new childcare legislation and practices in North Yorkshire

15. To stay late with any children in the room who are not collected by 6pm, with one other.

16. To Keep abreast of changes to Ofsted / government / local authority policy in connection with childcare.

1. To positively promote Puddleducks Nursery and our unique approach of childcare

2. To participate and be part of the senior staff team meetings within the nursery

3. To attend appropriate training programmes as identified

4. To commit to developing and maintaining a multicultural, anti-racist, non-sexist environment,

respecting the children's individual differences and to maintain a policy of confidentiality and

privacy

5. To take on additional or other reasonable duties as specified by the line manager, and according to the needs of the nursery.

The room supervisor is responsible for supervising a small team of staff and students and for the health, safety and well being of children in his/her area of responsibility

The room supervisor reports regularly to the Nursery Manager, and works within established policies and procedures.

The room supervisor will need to provide evidence and guidance in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage

Person Specification & Key Competencies for Room Supervisor



Knowledge & experience is essential

NNEB, DCE, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 in childcare or equivalent

Post qualification experience working with children (ideally approx 2

years) is essential

Knowledge of health, safety and welfare issues concerning children is essential

Child Protection Certificate is desirable

Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable

Experience in planning in accordance to curriculum guidelines is essential

Demonstrates supervisory and leadership skills when appropriate eg: in absence of line manager is essential

Has knowledge or experience on OFSTED regulations is essential

Aptitudes, Skills & competencies is essential

A genuine concern for the development and well being of the children within our care and the local community is essential

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills e.g.: able to develop professional, co-operative working relationship with parents, staff and children is essential

A professional approach to working in a team environment, able to motivate and guide a team is essential

Ability to be creative in a relaxed and open manner and able to encourage others is essential

Commitment to ensuring that nursery operates to the highest standards is essential

Ambition to grow and develop along with the willingness to undertake learning and development as appropriate is essential

Organisation skills and ability to manage own time is essential

Computer skills are desirable

Customer service awareness is desirable

Able to understand relationships within teams and groups are desirable

Able to create a shared purpose and direction is desirable

Dress Code and Personal Conduct:



You will be expected:

1. To present a clean and smart appearance at all times:

(a) Only one set of stud earrings to be worn while at nursery (no dangling earrings or nose studs).

(b) Jewellery must not be worn in order to prevent personal or child injury.

(c) Hair to be kept neat and tidy and to be tied back if longer than shoulder length.

(d) A change of slippers to be worn in the nursery rooms at all times. No outdoor boots or shoes to be worn inside the nursery.

(e) To ensure appropriate uniform (supplied) is worn with black trousers or skirts, no jeans. Tailored shorts (black) may be worn in the summer, minimum length, mid thigh. Uniform must be worn at all times whilst on duty. The t-shirts, and fleeces provided remain the property of Puddleducks at all times. or other additional items of clothing should be worn.

(f) Smart appearance is vital to maintain the professional image of the nursery.

These measures help us to meet the criteria as stated in Health and Safety at Work legislation and they also protect against injury to you and the children your care.

2. To establish and maintain good working relationships and ensure that care is taken when communicating with others to avoid any unnecessary conflict.

3. To encourage an atmosphere of co-operation and respect.

4. To ensure that a polite, courteous and helpful attitude is demonstrated at all times to the children, their parents/ carers and other staff members.

5. To maintain and respect confidentiality at all times.

6. To ensure that punctuality is maintained throughout the day. Holidays:

Please remember that before booking a holiday, authorisation must be obtained from the Nursery Manager. All paid holiday should be taken before unpaid leave is considered. Holiday should be booked so that no more than two people are on holiday at the same time in the nursery.

Emergency Procedures:

All staff must be aware of all company emergency procedures, including fire, first aid and safeguarding children.

Induction:

All staff members must complete the nursery induction process and read and be familiar with all company policies and procedures. All Health and Safety policies and documents must be read and understood and you will be requested to sign to state you have read and understood them.
