Role Purpose

The Design Architect will own the architectural design strategy for data centre projects from early feasibility through to concept and technical due diligence (TDD) stages. This role ensures that

test fits, feasibility studies, and TDD design

packages are accurate, commercially viable, and aligned with client requirements. Acting as a design authority, the Design Architect will manage stakeholder expectations, coordinate with internal and external teams, to deliver scalable, compliant, and innovative data centre design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the

development and approval of test fits

and

TDD design

packages, ensuring proposals are commercially and technically sound. Act as the

architectural design lead

on due diligence and feasibility assessments, providing risk identification and mitigation strategies. Support the

client interface

during early-stage design discussions, including workshops, design reviews, and stakeholder presentations. Collaborate closely with

MEP, structural, and civil teams

to ensure integrated, buildable, and efficient solutions. Provide

architectural design leadership

during site acquisition, evaluating building/site suitability and advising senior management. Ensure compliance with

local planning, building codes, fire safety, accessibility standards, and data centre-specific frameworks

(Uptime Institute, BREEAM, LEED, etc.). Maintain accountability for

architectural design quality and oversight of the design and build.

Manage relationships with external

consultants, contractors and Local Architects

, ensuring successful coordination and approvals. Champion

best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement

in data centre architectural design.

Skills & Experience

Degree in

Architecture or Architectural Technology

; professional accreditation (RIBA/ARB or equivalent) essential. Significant and demonstrable experience in

architectural design for data centres, mission-critical facilities, or complex industrial projects

. Proven track record of

leading test fit design and stage II design.

Demonstrable experience in

client-facing roles

, workshops, and senior stakeholder presentations. Expertise in

Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows

; strong visualisation/presentation skills. Knowledge of

Digital Twin

desirable Strong understanding of

MEP coordination

and mission-critical building systems. Ability to lead and develop a design team, setting standards and mentoring junior staff. Commercial awareness with the ability to balance

design quality with cost and programme constraints

.
