At Saint Gobain Abrasives we are looking for a Design Engineer to work in our Technical Production Team based out of our Staverton, Gloucestershire site helping to offer World Class Manufacturing (WCM) customer service by enabling the business to manufacture solutions that meet customer requirements, and thereby contribute to delivery of Saint-Gobain Abrasives\' (SGA) strategy

The Design Engineer will be a key part of the Technical Production team on site, interacting with a multi discipline team, all reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with a team of 3 Designers. What we\'re looking for:

• A strong commercial awareness, with an understanding of basic cost structures and margins, Able to understand and work to financial budgets
• Effective influencing and communication skills, with the ability to understand and explain technical concepts to different levels
• Knowledge of numerical analysis and finite element analysis
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple simultaneous priorities
• Previous experience as a Design Engineer working in a fast-paced environment with prior experience of efficiency and quality, designs within a manufacturing / production environment
• Excellent skills in using designing tools such as Solid Edge, Auto-CAD, and other relevant CAD packages

What you will be doing:

• Support quality improvement and cost reduction in the manufacturing process through design and process improvement.
• Prepare designs from component or supplied dresser drawings and provide manufacturing / design drawings, material lists and manufacturing process routes for existing and bespoke products.
• Provide concise, but comprehensive, and unambiguous product specifications, including product functionality, material BOMs, SAP routing and costing, packaging, and progress chasing.
• Expectations to be producing around 5 / 6 drawings a week, production and engineering duties, working in a fast-paced environment,
• Provide a specialist consultancy service on the design and application of all products, including existing, modified, or new products - consider all aspects of the customers machine fixture design and grinding application e.g., coolant, wheel spec, speeds & feeds
• Promote and implement continuous improvement in all areas of the plant through the adoption and implementation of World Class Manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
