Design Manager / Design Technician

who can take ownership of our design function from day one--producing detailed manufacturing drawings for our workshop while also creating polished GA and concept drawings for client sign-off.

The Role

You will manage the full design lifecycle for bespoke joinery and interior fit-out projects--coordinating with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and the internal workshop. You will balance creativity with technical precision, ensuring designs are fully coordinated, manufacture-ready, and in line with programme and cost requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Delivery

Produce

manufacturing drawings

for bespoke joinery items for workshop fabrication. Create

GA, concept, and presentation drawings

for client review and sign-off. Develop accurate 3D models and visualisations to support internal coordination and client engagement. Integrate

AI-assisted design tools

and new digital workflows into the design process, continuously improving efficiency and output quality.

Coordination & Management

Manage the design process across projects, using strong commercial and programme awareness. Review and coordinate subcontractor drawings, ensuring compliance and readiness for client approval. Produce and maintain project RFI schedules and distribute information to relevant teams. Ensure design output is aligned with current legislation, standards, and best practices. Collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Commercial Director and Operations on project strategy, design decisions, and buildability.

Quality, Safety & Delivery

Ensure all design information is accurate, high-quality, and issued in line with project timescales. Identify and mitigate design-related health & safety risks early in the process. Support cost-effective design solutions without compromising quality or client expectations.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential

Demonstrable experience producing

manufacturing drawings

for bespoke joinery or fit-out. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks/Inventor, SketchUp, or similar 2D/3D design software. Understanding of construction detailing, materials, and buildability in interior fit-out. Minimum of

three years' experience

working within construction, joinery, or fit-out. Excellent communication, coordination, and organisational skills. Ability to work independently as a one-person design function while building scalable processes.

Desirable Qualifications

Professional accreditation or working toward membership (CIOB, RIBA, CIAT, etc.) Experience implementing

3D design software
