Job Description

Starting in the new year, we are seeking a motivated and detail-focused Design & Manufacture Technician to support and expand our digital fabrication workflow across CNC machining, laser cutting, and 3D printing. This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career technician who wants to develop strong skills in CAD, CAM, and multi-process digital manufacture within a creative environment.

Strong proficiency in SketchUp is essential for fast integration into our workflow.

This role forms a key part of our planned upgrade and expansion of digital manufacturing capability.

Key Responsibilities



Create CAD drawings for simple and intermediate components using SketchUp.

Prepare CAM files, nests, and toolpaths for CNC production (with training and supervision).

Produce accurate drawing packs and cut lists for the workshop.

Assist with developing drawing templates, process documentation, and digital asset libraries.

Set up and operate the laser cutter for cutting, engraving, and prototyping tasks.

Prepare files for laser output including line weights, kerf compensation, nesting, and material selection.

Operate 3D printers, prepare STL files, slice models, and produce accurate prototypes or components.

Assist with maintenance, calibration, and safe operation of laser and 3D printing equipment.

Run routine or low-complexity CNC, laser, or 3D printing jobs to support workflow throughput.

Assist makers with part preparation, marking up, labelling, and assembly.

Support sanding, finishing, and general workshop preparation tasks.

Support quality checks and help ensure accurate translation from digital files to physical components.

Help maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.

Work closely with the Technical & Production Manager to understand construction logic, tolerances, and fabrication standards.

Contribute to improving workflows, documentation, and digital processes.

Essential Skills & Experience



Strong proficiency in SketchUp -- confident modelling accurately and producing clean, organised drawings.

Attention to detail and strong interest in digital fabrication.

Willingness to learn CAM and CNC processes.

Good communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude.

Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently once trained.

Preferred Skills & Experience



Experience with laser cutting workflows (e.g., LightBurn, RDWorks, Illustrator prep).

Experience with 3D printing workflows (slicing, supports, material selection, troubleshooting).

Experience with CNC machining or digital fabrication processes.

Understanding of common materials used in workshop and fabrication environments.

Familiarity with workshop tools and safe working practices.

Any experience with rendering, prototyping, or model-making.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.21-17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 per week
