The Despatch Supervisor is responsible for the picking and despatch of orders, ensuring accuracy and that quality standards set by the business are met. The role requires strong communication skills and close working with purchasing, sales, production, and logistics teams to deliver a high level of service to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Despatch Supervision
Plan and execute the picking and packing of stock for orders being despatched or collected.
Ensure all orders are correct and meet company quality standards.
Use computer systems to access, update, and check despatch information and paperwork.
Liaise with other team members to ensure the correct resources are available to complete required tasks efficiently.
Transport & Logistics Coordination
Assist with estimating vehicle space requirements.
Help organise and coordinate transportation activities, including making deliveries when required.
Team Supervision & Support
Ensure effective and safe supervision of team members within the despatch area.
Allocate daily tasks and support team organisation to maintain an efficient workflow.
Provide cover for despatch activities during periods of absence as required.
Operational & Site Responsibilities
Support loading and unloading of vehicles when required.
Keep stock within the despatch area watered, organised, and in good condition.
Ensure all despatch equipment is maintained and stored safely.
Assist in other areas of the business when required to support operational needs.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure company quality standards are adhered to at all times.
Understand and implement Health & Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory procedures.
Report to the Nursery Manager on progress against targets, issues arising, and proposed solutions.
Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the business.
Skills and Experience Required
Knowledge of plants essential
Previous experience in a despatch, logistics, or supervisory role preferred.
Good working knowledge of computer systems for despatch, planning, and documentation.
Strong organisational and leadership skills.
Confident communicator, able to coordinate effectively across teams.
Ability to prioritise workloads and make sound operational decisions.
Proactive, reliable, and flexible approach to work.
Comfortable with physical tasks as part of a hands-on supervisory role.
Full UK driving licence required.
Forklift licence preferred (training can be provided if required).
