About the Role
As one of the UK's leading manufacturers of microbiological culture media, supplying the clinical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental sectors globally. With over 40 years of expertise, cutting-edge GMP facilities, and a strong commitment to product quality and innovation, we are now looking to recruit a Development Chemist to join our Technical team.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for a qualified chemist to take the lead on all chemistry-related activities within the business. You'll play a pivotal role in the development, optimisation, and analytical support of our diverse product range, ensuring it meets the highest quality. Working closely with both R&D and manufacturing teams, you'll provide essential expertise in formulation development, troubleshooting, and process improvement across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the site's subject matter expert in chemistry
Develop, refine, and troubleshoot formulations for dehydrated and prepared culture media
Provide chemistry input into investigations, product improvements, and validation studies
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, QA, and Manufacturing
Maintain accurate laboratory records, technical reports, and validation data
Contribute to continuous improvement projects and technical investigations
Ensure all work complies with GMP, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 standards
Requirements
Minimum BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry or closely related field (e.g., Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry)
Relevant industry experience (e.g., pharma, biotech, diagnostics, chemical manufacturing)
High level of initiative, organisation, and problem-solving ability
Strong attention to detail, good laboratory practice (GLP), and accurate record-keeping skills
A proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong documentation, data interpretation, and communication skills
Desirable Skills
Experience of GMP or ISO 13485-regulated environments
Knowledge of microbiological culture media or diagnostic product manufacturing
Practical knowledge of CAPA, risk assessment, or process validation
