Role Summary
We're looking for a hands on Development Chemist to join our technical team. You'll be responsible for developing new products, improving existing formulations, resolving production issues, and supporting technical queries from internal teams and clients.
You'll work in a fast-paced environment focused on innovation, testing, and continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in epoxy, PU, or polyaspartic chemistry to help shape the future of Jofa's growing range.
Key Responsibilities
Formulate, test, and scale-up new resin systems (epoxy, PU screeds, polyaspartics)
Improve product quality, performance, and production efficiency
Support production with formulation issues and batch troubleshooting
Investigate customer complaints and provide technical resolutions
Carry out raw material evaluations and approve alternative suppliers
Monitor and test competitors' products for benchmarking
Conduct application testing (e.g. adhesion, cure times, abrasion, chemical resistance)
Write and maintain technical documentation (TDS, SOPs, formulations)
Ensure all work is compliant with HSE, COSHH, and industry regulations
Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing across teams
Collaborate with purchasing and operations to optimise formulations for cost and performance
Essential Skills & Experience
Degree in
Chemistry, Polymer Science
, or related scientific discipline
Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in:
Epoxy resins
Polyurethane screeds
Polyaspartic coatings
Strong formulation and testing knowledge in resin-based systems
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Hands-on experience in laboratory and scale-up environments
Understanding of product compliance, health & safety, and quality standards
Strong communication and reporting skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Organised, detail-focused, and self-motivated
Desirable
Familiarity with ISO 9001 processes and quality management systems
Experience with corrosion protection, heavy duty industrial coatings, or decorative flooring
Experience working with contractors or supporting application teams
Basic understanding of commercial drivers like margin optimisation and supply chain input
