A skilled and proactive Development Engineer to join our growing engineering team in the stairlift manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Mechanical Engineer ideally within electronics, coupled with experience in product compliance, technical problem-solving, and product development. This role offers a blend of practical engineering work, compliance oversight, and design development in a collaborative environment.
Knowledge of stairlift or mobility equipment standards and regulations, desirable. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System essential with a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Product Compliance - ensure all products meet relevant international standards and regulations (eg. ASME A18.1, CSA B355, EN 81 etc.)
Technical Support - provide technical assistance to production, service and installations teams, resolving issues quickly and effectively.
Technical Construction File Ownership - maintain and update the technical construction file for all products, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Testing & Reporting - plan, perform and document product testing to a high professional standard, producing clear and accurate reports for internal and external stakeholders on both current product and new developments.
Product Development Assistance - work closely with the Design and R&D teams to develop new products and improve existing designs, focusing on performance, reliability and manufacturability.
CAD Design (SolidWorks) - product, update and maintain 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.
Cross-functional Collaboration - liaise with Quality, Production, Procurement and Field Support teams to ensure technical requirements are understood and implemented.
Key Skills
Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent level qualification)
Practical experience of mechanical engineering, electronics and/or welding in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Proven product compliance knowledge and familiarity with relevant safety standards.
Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and technical drawings.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
Excellent communications and documentation skills with focus on accuracy, detail and methodical in approach.
Experience in product testing and ability to analyse and report on data.
Understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability principles.
Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
