This role will enable the successful applicant to become an important part of a small team in a specialised manufacturing company, suppling the Vegetable Oil and Rendering Industries.

Scope and Purpose



The Product Development Engineer will work within the Engineering team to support Product Development and compliance with Machinery Regulation requirements. Support will also be given to the drafting team with design analysis.

The Product Development Engineer will work to further develop our understanding of the processes at work within our presses and to coordinate our tests and trials work both on customer sites and in the Group pilot hall in northern France. Trials will normally be to improve process efficiency and materials wear.

The Development Engineer will also work with the Project Management and Sales teams to correctly identify customer requirements and further our understanding of competitor products.

Responsibilities



Supporting the Engineering Team with Design Analysis, using tradition calculation methods and FEA and CFD techniques to evolve and develop new and existing company products.

Organising and conducting process and materials trials, both at the Group R & D facility in France and at customer sites worldwide.

Preparation and maintenance of Technical Files including risk assessments to ensure the compliance with CE and UKCA machinery requirements.

Working with the Project Management and Sales teams to correctly identify customer requirements.

Visiting customer sites to gather information regarding their equipment to allow us to reverse engineer designs to their requirements.

Producing and updating specifications and drawings for in house manufacture and suppliers, as required.

Skills and Experience



The successful candidate will be :

Ideally degree qualified or similar with a good understanding of mechanical design principles and process experience.

Used to working to deadlines but with good attention to detail and a "right first time" attitude.

A Team player with good communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels of a business. Self-motivated the candidate must also be able to work on their own and unsupervised.

A knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD systems, (Medusa and SolidWorks in particular) would be advantageous.

Experience of working closely with a traditional manufacturing facility and, in particular, with machining processes and wear resistant materials would be desirable.

An understanding of the requirements of process plant and process equipment is desirable.

Computer literate and with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Additional language skills would be beneficial.

It is expected that the successfully applicant will normally work full time in our Hull office. After the initial training period some flexible working can be accommodated, however Group policy expects a minimum of 2/3 time to be spent in the office.

While this role will be based in our Hull offices, the role may sometimes require the post holder to travel worldwide in the execution of their duties.
