Proptech Aero Limited | Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, UK
About Us
Proptech Aero Limited is a specialist propeller maintenance, repair and overhaul company serving the regional aviation market. We provide comprehensive support for operators worldwide, combining technical excellence with responsive customer service.
The Role
We're looking for a Development Engineer to join our growing team. This is a varied, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys both technical problem-solving and practical workshop involvement. You'll play a central role in developing new components through reverse engineering, managing engineering projects from concept through certification, improving our processes, and keeping our facility and equipment running smoothly.
What You'll Do
Parts Development and Reverse Engineering
Work on the development of aircraft parts and components, including reverse engineering of existing items. You'll create technical schemes, develop specifications with the collaboration our quality team to ensure compliance with aviation regulations.
Technical Modelling and Analysis
Produce 3D models and engineering analyses to support development projects. You'll use CAD software to design fixtures, tooling and component modifications, and conduct tolerance studies and stress calculations where required.
Process Improvement
Identify engineering opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality and safety across our operations. You'll analyse existing workflows, develop improved methods and procedures, implement lean principles where appropriate, and measure the impact of changes. This includes reviewing repair techniques, optimising turnaround times, reducing waste, and contributing to our continuous improvement culture.
Supplier and Subcontractor Management
Liaise with external machine shops, surface treatment facilities, NDT providers and other specialist subcontractors. You'll prepare technical data packages, evaluate quotations, monitor quality and delivery performance, and build lasting relationships with key suppliers. You may also be required to conduct supplier audit activities in support of our Quality department.
Project Management
Take ownership of development projects from initial concept, first article inspection and testing through to production. This includes preparing project plans, tracking milestones, managing budgets, coordinating internal and external resources, and reporting progress to management.
Facility and Equipment
Maintain oversight of workshop equipment, calibration schedules and facility infrastructure. You'll identify equipment needs, specify and procure new items, arrange servicing and repairs, and contribute to continuous improvement of our working environment.
What We're Looking For
A degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline and at least two years' of work experience in a related field. Proficiency with CAD software, ideally SolidWorks. An understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, materials and quality standards. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and run a project from start to finish. Clear communication skills for working with suppliers, regulatory bodies and colleagues. A practical mindset and willingness to get involved across all aspects of a small, busy operation.
Experience in aviation MRO, familiarity with aviation regulations, exposure to reverse engineering and parts certification, or knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies would be advantageous but not essential for the right candidate.
What We Offer
A competitive salary depending on experience. The opportunity to make a genuine impact in a growing specialist business. Varied work combining desk-based engineering with hands-on involvement. A supportive team environment where your contributions are valued. There may also be opportunities to travel in the UK and internationally in support of the role.
