At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Development Engineer to join our team.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Research, Design & Technology (RDT) department provides support to all our manufacturing areas within the company, from steelmaking through to finish machining. Drawing technical and manufacturing experience from all areas of the business, the RDT Team develop new processes and utilise technology to deliver solutions, improvements and innovations..


As a Development Engineer, you will provide technical project engineering support to all aspects of the planning, costing, execution and reporting of internal and external consultancy projects.

What you'll be doing

Supporting engineering projects from enquiry to close-out. Ensuring timely delivery through task coordination and documentation. Liaising with internal teams for effective project execution. Preparing project schedules, forecasts, and requirements. Maintaining action trackers and meeting records. Assist with financial, legal, quality and export compliance. Supporting customer interactions and represent the company. Provide general support across Engineering & Technology.

About You

A graduate with a degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and / or an experienced Development Engineer. Broad knowledge and understanding of engineering principles. Ability to read technical drawings. Strong computer literacy - MS Office, including MS Project.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday. We offer flexibility in our start and finish times between 06:15 - 09:30 and 14:30 - 18:00 (amend as required).

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. People working with government / MOD assets must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks.

These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
