Job Summary-
To support and assist the sonographers in the clinical environment
The role is varied dependent on the site and the needs of the patients
Main duties of the job

• There is a requirement to drive and have your own vehicle in order to transport the Ultrasound Equipment safely and to carry out other duties.
• To work cohesively to support the designated sonographer working a clinical session ensuring that all patient needs are met in a safe and efficient manner.
• To transport the ultrasound system and ancillary equipment in a safe manner to and from all required sites as directed by the Operations team and in accordance with the weekly rota schedule.
• To ensure ultrasound consumable stock levels are maintained at all times.
• To work closely with the sonographer to manage the smooth running of the patient database and session list, recording patient episodes accurately, alerting the DHC patient services team of any booking errors or urgent reports for review.
• To upload and transfer confidential patient image data in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring all image acquisition related to their designated ultrasound is permanently backed up to PACS and deleted from the system hard drive when appropriate.

Job responsibilities

• Meet and greet patient in a pleasant, confident and professional manner.
• Confirm correct patient identification using required THREE forms of identification; full name, date of birth and address.
• Input correct patient data into the ultrasound system patient demographic page for sonographer to clarify details with patient prior to start of scan.
• Assist patients in a safe and appropriate manner, as and when requested by the patient, using recognised manual handling techniques for patient transfer and support.
• Act as an advocate for both patient and sonographer during a scan episode.
• Assist the patient with undressing and dressing before and after the scan if requested by the patient.
• Ensure the scan room and waiting areas are kept clean and tidy at all times maintaining a safe clinical environment free from hazards.
• Ensure the ultrasound system is clean at all times(probes and ultrasound system control panel) using manufacturers recommended cleaning agent suitable for eliminating multi-biohazard such as C-Diff and MRSA.
• Call the patient services team to inform them of any urgent or RAD patients immediately following the patients scan.
• Complete the end-of-day report on Origami prior to close of clinical session detailing any patients requiring urgent radiologist opinion, urgent reporting, equipment breakdown or intermittent problems, patient DNAs and any other relevant information which may need to be documented or relied upon in the future.
• Upload images to PACS at the end of each clinic.
• Ensure any students present for the clinical session are shown how to process the patient on Compucare, access system links report templates and are able to upload / attach images to patient scan episode as and when required.
• Make sure that any persons accompanying patients do not cause a distraction to the sonographer or compromise the clinical safety of the patient in any way.
• Support the sonographer and patient when adverse clinical findings lead to unexpected distress for patient or those accompanying the patient.
• Advise patients and multidisciplinary staff when an unexpected delay may have a direct effect on patient comfort (full bladders etc).
• Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times, supporting the sonographer with all scans, often of an intimate nature.
• Communicate with and relate to all patients and departmental visitors in a professional, empathetic and sensitive manner, giving clear explanations and instructions regarding ultrasound examinations as appropriate.
• Work within and adhere to DHC and local site standards, protocols and operational policies relating to own role, promoting a quality imaging service.
• Carry appropriate levels of ultrasound consumable stock to all sites worked to ensure ultrasound lists are not compromised by shortages of essential supplies from a clinical safety or company reputation perspective.
• Report all stock shortages and requirements to the Operations Team via Origami, on the End of Day. Always ensure that two weeks worth of stock is maintained at all times.
• Be prepared to work flexibly to meet service demands.
