Job Description

At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Dimensional Inspector to join our team, for a 6 months fixed term contract.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Work Rolls department produces forged steel rolls in our custom-built steel processing facility, that is among the most advanced, dedicated forged roll plants in the world.


As a Dimensional Inspector, you will ensure the work rolls and gun barrels produced meet precise measurements and tolerance specifications, using specialised metrology tools.

What you'll be doing

Dimensional inspection using micrometers, distance pieces, length rods, tape measures, verniers, surface finish etc. Written record-keeping of dimensional inspection results & reporting any non-conformities to technical for release. Providing dimensional data for customer / product specific reporting. Ensuring accessories such as keys, bayonet, pod ends etc have been fitted correctly. Adhering to calibration standards & required frequency of calibration of equipment.

About You

Engineering Apprenticeship trained preferred. Experience of working in an engineering role, including bench fitting and using tool room machinery. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings. Demonstrable experience working with high accuracy inspection equipment.

The Working Pattern

This is a part-time role working 26 hours per week, Mon 9:30-2:00pm, Tue & Wed 6:00-2:30pm, Thu 9:30-2:00pm, Fri 9:30-12:00pm.

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. People working with government / MOD assets must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks.

These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
