The Thales Under-Water Systems (UWS) Hardware (Hw) Engineering team at Cheadle Heath and Templecombe carry out Engineering activities covering the full engineering lifecycle for Submarine, Surface Ship, Airborne and Mine Warfare Sonar Systems. The team provides support for all Thales in-service Sonar Systems.

We\'re looking for Direct Entry Hardware engineers, to come in and work on a 1 to 1 basis with some of the team, to get up to speed and excel your career.

Our Opportunity

  • Coordinate the distribution of engineering work packages between the Hardware Engineering portfolios
  • Manage the completion of engineering design, development and qualification tasks for any work packages that reside within the SHP portfolio.
  • Work with the teams engineers to process Engineering Change through Palma (Windchill).
  • Drive the completion of these tasks within the committed cost, schedule and quality constraints.
  • Work in collaboration with the Project teams, Product Line teams and Building Block Architects as required, to identify opportunities for use of common hardware across UWS portfolios and projects.
Key training overview

The Direct Entry Hardware Engineers training will include, but not be limited to, the following wide and varied activities:
  • Bid support.
  • Customer services and support.
  • Project/Work package management.
  • Problem Report/Engineering Change/Technical Debt processing and management, using Palma, Excel, CREO, Visio and various other packages.
  • Collaborate with various implementation teams \xe2\x80\x93 Engineering, Projects, Industry/manufacturing, and Configuration Control etc.
  • Generate technical documentation: Bill of Materials (BoMs), Production Test specifications, and Build requirements etc.
  • Quality processes.
  • Engagement with, and presentation to, the Customer & End-User.
  • Manage the delivery of assigned work packages in line with the agreed requirements for time, cost and quality.
  • Identify funding and resources to undertake building block development activities within the SHP team.
  • Drive innovative and collaborative behaviours within our engineering teams that promote engineering efficiency, improved ways of working and an agile approach to our engineering activities.
  • Apply core and non-core product policy, conducts the appropriate assessments to manage the delivery of the product (e.g. Make-Team-Buy reviews and strategic outsourcing).
  • Export delivery processes.
About you
  • You will be studying for, or have completed a degree in an engineering or relevant scientific discipline, e.g. safety, environmental, systems, software, hardware, electrical/electronics, mechanical, communications etc. Or a higher level Degree/Doctorate, or equivalent
  • Drive innovative and collaborative behaviours that promote engineering efficiency, improved ways of working and an agile approach to our engineering activities.
  • Produce hardware solutions that we can all be proud of within an innovative and collaborative environment, ensuring the application of a Product mindset and common building block approach where applicable.
Nice to haves
  • Relevant experience gained through academic or work-place activities, e.g. modelling, project work, analysis, etc.
  • Understanding of hardware, electrical or software design to underpin build requirements.
  • Willingness to develop engineering and managerial skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities with a methodical approach;
  • Electro Mechanical modelling skills.
