Director of COO Office / Chief of Staff

Location -

Farringdon, London (Hybrid, 3 days in office)



During an exciting period of change and transformation at Royal Mail, we have a new opportunity for a Director of the COO Office. Acting as a strategic partner and Chief of Staff to the Chief Operating Officer, you will driving critical projects and ensure seamless execution of organisational priorities. You will oversee the end-to-end management of strategic initiatives, aligns cross-functional teams around common goals and enhances operational effectiveness across the business.


As a trusted advisor, you will extend the COO's bandwidth by shaping company strategy, providing insightful analysis and maintaining clarity of communication. Exceptional leadership, commercial acumen and problem-solving abilities are essential to succeed in this dynamic, high-impact position.

Key Accountabilities





Lead cross-functional initiatives, ensuring teams deliver against shared objectives on schedule Provide analysis, insights and recommendations to inform executive decision-making Develop and translate key communications into presentations and other formats for internal and external audiences Ensure successful implementation of programmes within the COO function, managing compliance with performance measures Identify potential roadblocks, mitigate risks and propose proactive solutions to challenges Track and report on key performance metrics, refining strategy as required

Key Skills & Experience





Proven track record in delivering complex projects within a matrix-managed organisation Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence and build trust across teams Strong stakeholder management, capable of forging relationships to meet tight timelines Deep understanding of operational KPIs and their impact on overall business performance Comfortable dealing with ambiguity Demonstrable strategic and analytical thinking, with a focus on both big-picture and detail-oriented work Track record of drafting influential and impactful written communications for senior audiences, e.g. board packs Experience in a senior leadership role, ideally as Chief of Staff or a similar strategic operations position Effective cross functional communication skills at all levels from frontline to senior execs Proactive, solution-orientated mindset with robust risk-management skills
