With a new five-year strategy in place, education and events play a key role in one of BIR\'s fastest growing areas, in helping to ensure the BIR remains financially sustainable in a changing environment, delivering education to more people, and helping grow their membership.

This post is central to the activities of the BIR in being responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality education, training and continuous professional development relevant to its membership community, in flexible and interactive formats.

Job Summary

  • To have overall responsibility for the strategic focus and financial performance of the BIR Education programme, including delivering an annual programme of high quality face-to-face, virtual and hybrid events for the radiology community.
  • To be outward-facing, developing collaborative partnerships and networks with key stakeholders and promoting the BIR educational programme and its goals, as well as building long-lasting relationships with key opinion leaders, industry and corporate partners.
  • To build on a reputation of high-quality education to establish new and exciting opportunities for the BIR, such as partnered projects, and our Artificial Intelligence roundtables.
  • In addition, the role holder is expected to be an active member of SMT, supporting the senior team to meet its strategic objectives, contributing to the risk register and mitigating risks under their control. The role holder will fully support and participate in performance management as well as contributing to ideas for learning and development needs for the whole team.
Overall responsibilities:
  • Ensure the strategic leadership and financial sustainability of BIR educational output, working in collaboration with the SMT, Vice President of Education, BIR Trustees, Education Committee, Special Interest Groups, Branches and industry partners.
  • Lead and develop the Education team of eight staff members.
  • Contribute to overarching strategic and financial planning, by providing ongoing analysis of performance of individual events against budget and KPIs, and communicating the rolling pipeline of forthcoming events
  • Contribute to the success of a future-proofed, sustainable organisation, underpinned by a culture of shared beliefs and values, and driven by goals related to long-term fiscal sustainability whilst remaining relevant to its charitable objectives.
The role will involve:

Educational strategic planning: Take a leadership role in formulating and executing the education and events strategy. Map the educational programme against relevant curricula and training and CPD requirements. Lead on the development and implementation of the BIR\'s policy on course accreditation/approval/endorsement programmes. Provide regular reporting and analysis. * Programme Development and Delivery: Collaborate with stakeholders to create an annual programme of courses, conferences, and scientific meetings. Lead the education team, develop courses, expand online resources, and establish contractual arrangements with venues. Oversee the Education Committee and ensure quality assurance.
  • Relationship Development: Negotiate and execute education projects, building relationships with key stakeholders and partnering with external organisations. Collaborate with sister organisations and potential partners to develop joint events and initiatives.
  • Operational and staff management: Lead and manage the Education Department team, fostering innovation and quality. Develop operational plans, contribute to budgeting and financial strategy, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Finance Management: Manage budgets, implement financial controls, and monitor variances. Seek industry support, ensure cost-effective operations, and reconcile expenses promptly.

We are looking for candidates to demonstrate:
  • Strong organisational, communication and diplomatic skills, who can initiate contacts, build relationships and influence at a high level and represent the BIR in public.
  • Experience of developing and implementing strategy at a senior level.
  • Experience of creating, managing, and reporting on budgets with excellent financial literacy.
  • Experience of managing projects and negotiating with staff and external agencies to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Experience of producing and presenting reports, including financial, to committees, Trustees, and Senior Management Team.
  • Experience of new business development, income generation, or building revenue streams.
  • Experience of managing a sizeable team of people.
It would be an advantage if you have:
  • Experience of developing, delivering, and championing new educational activities.
  • Experience of overseeing management of multiple events per annum, in-person, online, and blended, including delivery.
  • Experience of overseeing development of online educational activities, virtual events, webpages, apps, etc.
  • An understanding of a relevant medical/scientific field.
The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is an international membership organisation, a multidisciplinary society and a registered charity.

The BIR are for everyone working in imaging, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences.

The Events team are critical to the organisation and delivered almost 40 events in 2022, including 12 virtual events, 11 face-to-face, and 16 webinars.

Candidates will receive a salary of up to \xc2\xa380K plus great benefits.

This role will involve a blend of working in the office 2 days per week (in London) and working at home.

The BIR will consider applications of candidates wishing to work either 4 or 5 days per week in total.
