The Role
We're looking for a strategic, commercially minded, and delivery-oriented Director of Product to lead our product strategy across a growing portfolio of business verticals. Reporting to the CTO, you will work closely with the Product leads to ensure product vision is translated into rapid, iterative, and high-quality delivery.
This role is pivotal in shaping and scaling our multi-vertical product organisation covering established domains like Waste, Connectivity, and Water, as well as expansion areas including Payments, MSPs, Energy, Insurance, and future acquisitions.
As Director of Product, you will also champion the strategic use of AI to drive customer experience, operational efficiency, product capability, and internal productivity, helping us position AI as a key enabler of our competitive advantage.
You'll be the bridge between Technology, Operations, Sales and Marketing, and Business Leadership, aligning product strategy with market opportunity, customer needs, and delivery capabilities.
What You'll Do
Product Strategy & Vision
Own and evolve the company-wide product strategy and vision, ensuring alignment across business verticals and technology platforms.
Develop and prioritise roadmaps that drive customer value, revenue growth, and strategic differentiation.
Identify opportunities for AI integration to create smart, automated, and scalable product capabilities.
Product Execution & Delivery
Collaborate with the Product leads and the team to turn strategy into execution, ensuring a cadence of high-quality, fast delivery through empowered product squads.
Ensure clear prioritisation frameworks are in place to deliver value quickly while managing risk and technical complexity.
Build scalable governance for cross-vertical delivery without slowing down innovation.
AI Strategy & Enablement
Act as an executive champion for AI adoption across product development -- from intelligent user experiences to automated operations and personalised services.
Partner with Technology to embed AI into the product architecture and delivery pipeline.
Promote responsible AI practices aligned to ethical standards and business outcomes.
Market & Customer Insight
Establish and lead competitive intelligence practices that feed directly into product strategy, roadmap prioritisation, and go-to-market positioning.
Regularly synthesise competitive trends, pricing models, feature gaps, and proposition comparisons across verticals (e.g., Telco, Energy, MSP, Insurance).
Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to align positioning and messaging with defensible product advantages and areas for differentiation.
Drive user research, market analysis, and competitive benchmarking to shape and validate product direction.
Encourage deep collaboration between product teams and frontline business units to stay close to customer problems.
Shared Proposition Ownership
Jointly own the development and refinement of product and go-to-market value propositions with the Director of Sales and Marketing.
Translate product capabilities into commercial propositions that resonate with key customer segments, ensuring internal alignment from build to brand.
Partner with commercial leads during early-stage vertical launches (e.g., Telco) to ensure product input is core to proposition design, not an afterthought.
Segmentation, Persona & Messaging Alignment
Work directly with Sales and Marketing and Service teams to shape customer personas, needs-based segments, and the messaging pillars that connect product strengths to real-world pain points.
Ensure the roadmap reflects the different journeys and expectations of these segments.
Win/Loss Analysis
Implement a structured win/loss feedback loop to extract insights from commercial performance and customer objections.
Use insights to adjust prioritisation, roadmap focus, and sales enablement materials.
Voice of the Customer (VoC) & Culture Change
Lead a shift from inside-out product thinking to a customer-first mindset at every stage of discovery, development, and delivery.
Stand up and own a Voice of the Customer (VoC) program, working closely with our Service teams, embedding real-world feedback into product strategy through structured mechanisms (e.g., interviews, usage analytics, surveys, and frontline input).
Role-model this culture change across the Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams -- advocating for product decisions based on verified customer insight rather than internal assumptions.
Cross-functional Alignment
Work with the Director of Technology to balance product ambition with technical feasibility.
Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to develop compelling propositions and ensure product-market fit.
Partner with Sales and Marketing to co-create launch plans for new features and products -- ensuring positioning, messaging, timing, and enablement materials are aligned with commercial objectives.
Collaborate with Operations and Service to leverage their expertise on internal tooling.
Use customer feedback, competitive analysis, and sales intelligence gathered by commercial teams to inform product discovery and prioritisation.
Ensure the product roadmap includes the inputs necessary to support pricing strategies, sales playbooks, collateral, demos, and training materials.
Support the development of product-led growth initiatives and campaigns -- ensuring product features and capabilities contribute meaningfully to lead acquisition and conversion metrics.
Embed tools and features within products that enable cross-sell, upsell, and self-service opportunities -- working with Sales and Marketing to make these deliver measurable results.
Create structured channels for Sales and Marketing to feed learnings from customer conversations, objections, and win/loss analysis back into product strategy.
Partner with vertical business Directors to ensure product solutions enable operational and commercial success.
Team Building & Leadership
Support the growth and effectiveness of the Product function, with a focus on building scalable practices, coaching product managers, and promoting autonomy.
Champion a product-led culture that balances discovery and delivery, experimentation and excellence.
What We're Looking For
Significant experience in a senior product leadership role, ideally across multi-vertical B2B services, platform-based models, or regulated markets.
Deep understanding of modern product management, cross-functional delivery at scale, and iterative/agile practices.
Familiarity with AI capabilities and integration in real-world products -- whether through ML-based features, automation, or recommendation systems.
Proven ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term results in a complex and evolving environment.
Experience leading through change, whether from rapid growth, acquisitions, or market disruption.
The Person We're Looking For
Collaborative leadership style brings people together around a common goal and builds momentum across functions.
Customer-first and commercially sharp knows how to align business impact with genuine user value.
AI-curious and digitally fluent and understands the transformative potential of emerging technology and knows how to apply it responsibly.
Highly adaptable thrives in ambiguity, adjusts to fast-changing priorities, and helps others do the same.
Decisive and delivery oriented brings clarity and focus to complexity without slowing things down.
Inspiring communicator able to tell the story of our products and vision to internal teams, stakeholders, and customers.
ROI and Value Delivery Expectations
As Director of Product, you will be expected to deliver a strong return on investment (ROI) by aligning product strategy with measurable business impact. Your performance will be assessed not just by roadmap execution, but on the outcomes your products achieve through customer experience, operational efficiency, and commercial performance.
Key ROI-related expectations include:
Commercial Impact:
Define and track metrics such as revenue growth, customer lifetime value, conversion rates, cross-sell success, and churn reduction -- ensuring product investment aligns with commercial goals.
Cost Optimisation:
Identify opportunities to reduce cost-to-serve, eliminate inefficiencies, and automate repetitive processes through well-designed products and AI integration.
Platform Leverage:
Create reusable capabilities across verticals (e.g. billing, onboarding, support tooling, self-service) to reduce time-to-market and increase margin.
Speed-to-Value:
Work closely with the Product leads to shorten cycle times from discovery to launch, ensuring product features deliver meaningful value as quickly as possible.
AI Return Realisation:
Champion initiatives where AI can materially improve customer outcomes or internal productivity and track their ROI against agreed business cases.
Capital Allocation:
Ensure product investment is prioritised against the company's strategic goals, redirecting effort away from underperforming areas when needed.
Your role is not only to ensure we build the right things, but to ensure we get meaningful returns from what we build, making the product function a core driver of company performance.
