Position: Director of Surveying (Building Warranty Inspection Services)

Location: Fully remote (with occasional travel to the company's head office)

Job Overview:


This organisation is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Surveying to oversee the Building Warranty Inspection Services division. This senior leadership role is responsible for implementing the business plan, driving growth, ensuring profitability, and maintaining high technical standards for inspections across various sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the latent defect insurance market (or a similar field), with a proven track record in technical operations, compliance, and leadership.

As Director of Surveying, you will be responsible for leading a national network of surveyors, managing major projects, overseeing technical operations, and ensuring the provision of high-quality surveying services to developers. You will work closely with the senior leadership team to align the division's objectives with the overall company strategy, driving the business toward profitable growth and customer excellence.

Key Responsibilities:



Develop and implement the annual operational and strategic plans for the Building Warranty Inspection division, in alignment with company goals.

Lead and oversee key functions including Technical and Surveying Operations, Training, Technical Auditing, and Surveyor Operations.

Collaborate with the Commercial Director to ensure effective service delivery and support for underwriting and pricing strategies.

Maintain and improve technical manuals, knowledge management, and auditing standards to ensure continued professional development.

Build and mentor a high-performing team and foster a culture of collaboration and excellence.

Monitor industry trends and identify opportunities for innovation and service expansion.

Provide leadership and guidance on quality management processes to ensure consistent, high-quality surveying services.

Engage with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to drive business growth and strategic initiatives.

Report on business performance to the senior leadership team and provide regular updates on operational performance and strategic developments.

Lead ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required by the senior leadership team.

Key Skills & Experience:



Proven leadership experience in commercial, construction, and insurance industries. Ideally a qualified surveyor or engineer (MRICS, MBEng, MIStructE, or similar).

Extensive knowledge of building regulations, construction standards, and the warranty inspection sector.

Strong ability to lead and develop teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics and engage stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrated experience in managing risk, developing operational strategies, and improving performance metrics.

Financial acumen and ability to manage budgets, KPIs, and business growth strategies effectively.

Experience in quality management systems and processes to maintain high standards across surveying functions.
