Summary


Have you supported individuals with complex needs and now want to work in a more structured, team-based environment? A specialist school in Carlisle is looking for caring and resilient individuals to join their classroom team. This long-term role offers a fulfilling transition from care into education, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), autism and non-verbal communication needs in a nurturing and well-resourced setting.

The Role


As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you'll bring your experience from disability support into a new context -- working alongside teachers and therapists to help pupils engage with learning, communicate in ways that work for them, and feel secure and included throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils in lessons, using visual, sensory and communication tools Assisting with personal care, mobility and feeding, with dignity and respect Following and contributing to individual learning and care plans Promoting independence, emotional wellbeing and social interaction Creating a calm, consistent environment where every pupil can thrive
This is a classroom-based role -- no lone working, shift patterns or overnight care -- just consistent daytime hours, strong team support, and the chance to be part of something meaningful.

This role is ideal for someone from a disability support, health or social care background who's ready to step into a school setting. You'll need:

Experience supporting individuals with PMLD, ASD or non-verbal needs A relevant qualification in care, health and social care or a related subject A calm, patient and respectful approach Confidence providing personal care as part of a trusted routine A team mindset and a passion for inclusive, person-centred support

The School


This inclusive, specialist school in Carlisle supports pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of complex needs. With small class sizes, access to therapy teams and a whole-child approach, it's a place where both pupils and staff are supported to grow.

Working Hours


Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm (term time only)

If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense?Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
