Overview


Howell Surgery is a rural practice with a dispensing list of around 2500 patients. We are seeking a part-time Dispensary Assistant to join our current team.

A flexible, professional and enthusiastic approach is essential and you should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both colleagues and patients. You should be willing to work independently as well as alongside the current team of Dispensers.

The role of our Dispensers is essential in supporting our patients to manage their medications by providing reliable and timely repeat medications, promoting medication regime adherence and helping to effectively reduce drug waste. It is an enjoyable and rewarding role, but fast-paced and varied and so will suit candidates who are well organised, pro-active and work well under pressure.

You will be working with evolving technologies which are helping to develop and enhance dispensing processes and so you should be willing to learn new skills as necessary. Training will be available as necessary, together with the requirement that you complete all necessary statutory annual training.

The ideal candidate will possess dispensary and GP surgery experience and you will be contributing to a providing a positive experience for both patients and staff.

Responsibilities



Assisting in the daily running of the Dispensary. Dispensing and checking medicines safely and accurately and in line with dispensary standard operating procedures, including the issuance of controlled drugs. Stock order and receipt. Providing care and advice to patients and dealing with day to day queries, with reference to clinicians as appropriate. Collaborating with all healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care. Upholding cleanliness and organisation within the work environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.

Qualifications



Previous experience as a Dispensary Assistant is highly desirable, including a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Dispensing at Level 2, together with previous experience of working in a GP Surgery using EMIS. An understanding of pharmaceutical terminology. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient care and empathy. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while also being able to work independently when required. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail are essential for maintaining accurate records and managing tasks efficiently.
