Strategic Support Officer - Strategic Road Network Division
Are you looking for a role where you can make a real impact on Wales' transport infrastructure? We're offering an exciting opportunity to join the Strategic Road Network (SRN) Division at the heart of Welsh Government.
The SRN is one of Wales' most critical infrastructure assets, valued at approximately 21 billion. Although it represents just 5% of the total road length in Wales, it carries a third of all traffic and 93% of road freight--playing a vital role in supporting economic growth, regional connectivity, public safety, and environmental sustainability.
About the Role
As Strategic Support Officer, you'll work closely with the Deputy Director of the Division, providing high-level support across a wide range of responsibilities. The Deputy Director oversees a Division of around 70 staff and manages a capital budget of 200 million and a revenue budget of 120 million annually.
You'll be the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including senior Welsh Government officials, Local Authorities, National Highways, the Department for Transport, contractors, consultants, and members of the public. You'll also support wider divisional activity, including finance, third-party claims, and land management.
Why Join Us?
The SRN Division is a friendly and supportive team, committed to working collaboratively to deliver high-quality outcomes. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the operation and maintenance of one of Wales' most important infrastructure assets, while developing your skills and professional network.
Key tasks

Executive Support
Managing the Deputy Director's diary and inbox independently
Responding to emails and ensuring timely, appropriate delegation
Coordinating communications with internal and external stakeholders
Operational & Administrative Duties
Maintaining filing systems and records for key divisional areas
Supporting governance processes including Freedom of Information (FoI) requests and Ministerial advice
Minute-taking for meetings and committees
Keeping divisional organograms and resource records up to date
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
Working closely with engineers, trunk road authorities, consultants, and contractors
Assisting teams across the Division during busy periods
Coordinating corporate returns, audits, and committee submissions
