Domestic Abuse Walsall Service provides emergency, short-term accommodation, refuge and dispersed provision for women and men, with or without children, who are escaping abuse. We provide a wrap around service that supports the client and family unit to recover and resettle.
About the role
To provide a first response to callers who need safe accommodation
Liaising with victims and external agencies to establish if domestic abuse accommodation is available and safe for the victim
Establish risk posed to the victim and assess suitability for accommodation services
Offering immediate advice, liaising and signposting to other agencies
Receive and process referrals to the service from a variety of sources including specialist agencies, housing, social care, police, health care staff and self-referrals
Ensure appropriate and safe travel arrangements are in place for service user
Advertise vacancies on Refuges Online and with Walsall Housing teams, keeping this up to date.
Work with Housing IDVA to ensure information is shared appropriately on new service users coming into the scheme
To ensure allocated support workers are aware of the background of the new service user and their family by maintaining UpToDate and accurate client records
Management of data and produce weekly and monthly reports

About you
Be able to communicate effectively in English
Be able to manage incoming calls into the service at the same time
Be able to work on your own initiative along with a commitment to teamwork.
Have good experience of being able to respond calmly to difficult situations and handle emergencies without immediate supervision
Experience of providing housing related support and/or working with victims of domestic abuse (or other specialist knowledge of domestic abuse services).
Able to work n your own initiative and be flexible and responsive to the needs of the service and clients.
Ability to deal with a demanding workload and to prioritise effectively whilst maintaining attention to detail
Experience of and ability to use Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook to an intermediate standard
