Nailsea & District Community Transport are seeking 1 part time minibus drivers for SEND, term time school runs twice per day, Monday to Fridays, starting in September. Please note that this position requires the candidate to hold a D1 category licence (pre 1997) (or a full PCV D licence) Home-school drivers work 4.5 hrs per day over term time 190 days per year. Holidays must be taken during non term time.
Salary 12456 for 190 days term time including holiday pay. On call payment will be paid in addition if occasional on call duties are carried out.
Minibus driver awareness training will be provided and candidates must attend Safeguarding Level 1 and First Aid training, prior to starting shifts in September, as well as co-operate with the requirements of the school.

Main duties
To be responsible for the vehicle whilst in operation including the safety of all passengers.
To work in partnership with a Passenger Assistant and there may be occasions where the driver is required to act as Passenger Assistant.
To show empathy when transporting passengers with a range of special needs.
Operate passenger lifts and secure wheelchair passengers in the vehicles.
To treat passengers as individuals, helping where necessary and gently encourage them to attend school when required.
Assist passengers on and off the vehicles, ensuring safety
Carry out daily and fortnightly safety checks and be responsible for ensuring regular vehicle cleanliness and maintenance after shifts.
Ensure vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.
Plan routes and complete necessary vehicle documentation.
Ensure passengers are transported with their safety and comfort being of paramount consideration.
Assist in the training of new volunteer drivers and passenger assistants
Must be willing to attend Safeguarding & First Aid training
Other reasonable tasks identified by the Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Full clean driving licence with category D1 entitlement or a PCV D licence.
Aged over 21.
Enjoy driving and have a warm friendly manner.
MIDAS certificate useful but not essential (full training given).
To observe all transport regulations to ensure compliance with the Highway Code.
To be responsible for the vehicle whilst in operation including the safety of all passengers.
Patient, caring and empathetic with an understanding of SEND.
Physically capable of assisting service users with limited mobility in line with moving and handling procedures
Warm, friendly and cheerful personality.
Excellent communication skills, taking care to listen and communicate effectively to passengers who may be struggle to communicate verbally.
Ability to work well as part of a small team under pressure.
Ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision.
Ability to work as part of a team with both paid and volunteer staff.
Knowledge of local area.
Ability to be flexible with hours
Good basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Enhanced DBS will be carried out, prior to employment
