Assisting the Childcare Manager, Deputy Childcare Manager and Room Leader in the management of staff and the welfare, learning and development of children in Alexandra House Nursery in accordance with company policies and procedures, all local authority and Ofsted regulations, and the EYFS Framework.
To ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of all children attending Alexandra House Nursery
To ensure all agreed health and safety standards, policies and procedures are followed and maintained in the nursery at all times
To provide quality learning and development for children in an inclusive, stimulating environment
To deputise for the Room Leader in all areas
Play a lead role in ensuring all aspects of nursery practice comply with Ofsted requirements and contribute to maintaining or improving inspection outcomes.
Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Childcare Manager, Deputy Childcare Manager and Room Leader and in particular when in sole charge of a floor:
Manage effectively the deployment of staff, the safety, security, education and wellbeing of the children
Ensure that all required standards, ratios and conditions of registration are maintained at all times
Ensure all staff are implementing policies and procedures to ensure that the welfare requirements of the statutory framework (EYFS) are met
Ensure the key person system is implemented offering children supported inductions and transitions and the continuity of a caring adult within Alexandra House Nursery
Plan appropriate experiences for the children in line with the guidance in the EYFS to meet the learning and development requirements and needs of the children
Implement the Alexandra House Nursery policy on observation, assessment and planning and record and report in line with the requirements of the statutory framework
Be committed to the protection and safeguarding of children and to ensure that all staff are implementing safeguarding procedures in line with the EYFS and Alexandra House Nursery safeguarding policies
Ensure that each member of staff is clear about their roles and responsibilities, modelling best practice and providing mentoring and support as required.
Ensure staff provide effective liaison with parents/carers on a daily basis regarding the welfare, learning and development of children
Ensure high standards of safety, security, hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness are maintained at all times in Alexandra House Nursery
Ensure the building and resources are treated with respect by children and staff at all times
Participate in the supervision and appraisal process in Alexandra House Nursery and take responsibility, when required, for the supervision of staff.
Access training or professional development in line with the appraisal system, keeping up to date with current good practice.
Attend regular staff meetings and assist with the organisation of staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Ensure that staff are kept up to date with Alexandra House Nursery policies and procedures
Ensure that all new staff have quality inductions into Alexandra House Nursery and are made aware of policies and procedures and Ofsted requirements
Attend management meetings as required
Ensure that the equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices are followed at all times, promoting positive behaviour and attitudes
Support children with special / additional needs and contribute to any specified meetings and/or programmes which assist their learning and development, ensuring all staff working with each child understands their needs.
Champion inclusive practice across the setting, ensuring all children, regardless of background, ability or need, feel valued and supported to reach their full potential.

Additional responsibilities
An Early Years Practitioner at Level 3 or above would be expected to:
Be a key person for a group of children and compile written contributions to record their personal development and learning. Working closely with the families to develop trusting and collaborative relationships which support children's emotional wellbeing
Contribute to the development of the curriculum EYFS, policies and procedures
Take responsibility for a particular area of work within the room - for example Story time, English as a second language, fire safety etc.
Support volunteers or students on placement
