THE ROLE

In this pivotal role, the incumbent provides leadership and strategic direction for the development and implementation of the School\'s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy. Central to proactively addressing systemic barriers and fostering inclusivity, the role ensures the School\'s compliance with legal obligations related to EDI for both employees and students.

Reporting to the Secretary and Registrar, the role collaborates closely with the senior leadership team, Human Resources, and internal partners, building strong relationships across the School. Serving as the EDI subject matter expert, the role holder leads the EDI team, embedding principles in the School\'s business and coordinating advice on equalities frameworks such as Athena SWAN, the Race Equality Charter Mark and Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.

Moreover, the role focuses on developing and implementing strategies, policies, and initiatives to promote equal opportunities and embed EDI across the School\'s operations, policies, practices and culture.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Proven professional experience is essential for this post.
  • Must have a track record in conceptualizing, developing and implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Experience in implementing equalities frameworks such as Athena SWAN and Stonewall is essential.
  • The candidate should excel in advising on and supporting organizational culture change, including evaluating and measuring impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change by negotiating and implementing policies with various stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in project initiation and management within the realm of EDI.
  • Team management skills, including budget management, are required.
  • A deep understanding of current legislation and best practices in EDI, particularly in higher education, is crucial.
  • Knowledge of key academic theories related to EDI, workplace requirements for individuals with additional needs, and the ability to gain support professionally are necessary.
  • Strong skills in translating strategy into operational delivery and presenting complex issues clearly, both in writing and verbally.
  • The candidate should exhibit tenacity, resilience, and adept communication, relationship-building, mediation, negotiation and networking skills.
