Join our team publishing Cambridge's highly regarded university-level books in Data, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences. Our publications range from undergraduate textbooks to advanced research monographs, authored by leading experts from around the world.
As an Editorial Assistant, you'll support the development and production of these titles, helping bring high-quality educational resources to students and researchers globally.
We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
About the role
The Editorial Assistant provides essential administrative support to a friendly team of Commissioning Editors and Publishers working across mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, and engineering.
The role involves contributing to all phases of the book publication process, from the initial concept to the finished product. Key responsibilities include supporting the peer reviewing of new book proposals, drafting book contracts, corresponding with contracted authors, and preparing manuscripts for handover to the production department. The role requires effective communication and liaison with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in academic book publishing and develop valuable related skills.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend at least 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.
About You
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and administrative skills, as well as a flexible approach to work. The role requires attention to detail, along with excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
You will be confident, self-motivated, and able to work on your own initiative. We are also looking for a team player with a positive approach to supporting others. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with all stakeholders. You must have good IT skills and be comfortable working with basic financial and numerical data.
