About the Role





The role of Editorial Assistant will help the Editor and editorial team with the day-to-day running of Metro.co.uk and Metro newspaper, working on digitisation and optimisation of content, acting as newsroom liaison, managing competitions, assisting with community building, carrying out research, creating reports and managing various admin tasks.



Some journalistic experience/training and knowledge of working in a digital news operation is essential, as is an understanding of the Editors' Code and media and copyright law.



The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good attention to detail, be able to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines, and have exceptional organisational skills.



This is a brilliant role if you have a strong interest in journalism and want to be at the heart of Metro's editorial operation.


Main Responsibilities




Daily curation and digitisation of print content (adding pictures, captions, social headlines etc to content in Wordpress) Optimisation of content - adapting headlines and edit content for a digital audience Assisting with newsroom integration and working with senior editors to further develop integration strategy Managing forward planning lists across platforms and departments Assisting with community building and integration projects Updating and circulating reports where necessary Managing and circulating agendas for meetings Managing calendars / booking meeting rooms Organisation and planning of reader competitions where necessary Contributing to editorial and commercial ideas meetings Managing newsroom correspondence and replying to reader letters where necessary Liaising with Managing Editors where necessary on staffing, admin and other matters
