Introduction/Background:
The SEND support team provides support for young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) across all faculties in the college. Courses range from pre entry level provision in the Faculty of Foundation Learning to Higher Education courses, and individualised programmes delivered by the college for:

  • D/deaf students
  • Students with Visual Impairment
  • Students with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Conditions
  • Students with Severe and Specific Language Impairment
  • Students with Physical Access/mobility requirements
  • Students with Learning Disabilities/Difficulties
  • Students with support needs as defined by their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Students supported through SEND Support.
The primary purpose of this job role is to:
Assist the EHCP Manger in supporting Cambridge Regional College in its response and compliance to the statutory duty placed upon it by Government legislation including the SEN Code of Practice. In doing so, the employee will be have responsibility for:
  • the identification of prospective/potential EHCP students or those requiring additional funding
  • supporting the transition arrangements of prospective students into CRC o monitoring the progress and quality of the learner experience of EHCP students or students with additional funding during their studies
  • supporting the transition of EHCP students or those with additional funding within CRC and exit from CRC as appropriate.
The employee will also provide appropriate direct and indirect intervention to support, advice and signposting to students, staff, families, advocates and external agents to maintain and improve the holistic learner experience and support retention, success and each EHCP learner's aspirations.
The employee will support (and chair as directed) Annual EHCP Reviews including the preparation, writing, creation and communication of related paperwork within statutory deadlines.
The primary duties, tasks and responsibilities of this job role are to;
  • To be a point of contact of information, advice, guidance and support to Cambridge Regional College staff, learners and their advocates regarding Education, Health & Care Plans, additional support requirements and reasonable adjustment.
  • To keep abreast of and communicate SEND related information confidently, articulately, professionally and clearly (verbally and non-verbally) with prospective and current students, staff, families, visitors, advocates and external professionals who may themselves have varying degrees of disability, difficulty or impairment.
  • To support the transition arrangements of learners that have EHCPs and/or have been identified as requiring additional funding to include, but not limited to:
  • Providing initial contact to accurately identify needs either internally or externally, e.g. at feeder schools
  • Providing additional familiarization sessions as appropriate
  • To work closely with colleagues to signpost learners to services that can support their transition from Cambridge Regional College, e.g. the workplace, Higher Education, supported living
  • To respond appropriately to the declarations of students by identifying, assessing and reporting their Special Educational Needs and LLDD.
  • To support the management team in responding to Local Authority EHCP consultations.
  • To support the management team in costing EHCP consultations.
  • To work collegiately to support CRC delivery, support and management teams by identifying, recording communicating, and recommending reasonable adjustments required by students in order for students to experience equality of opportunity and quality of their learner experience compared to students without declared needs.
  • To create and/or amend and update student profiles to ensure SEND and EHCP information remains accessible, accurate and current, and offer ongoing information, advice and guidance to Cambridge Regional College support staff to ensure the individual requirements of learners are met.
  • To ensure that relevant colleagues are aware of the EHCP outcomes of young people so that delivery staff can modify their planning and delivery as appropriate, and that appropriate support is allocated.
  • To source reasonable adjustments both internally and externally to include, but not limited to, physical, environmental, equipment related, human, and technological including financial/funding arrangements. This will include the engagement/commissioning of specialist services including, but not limited to, Speech and Language Therapy, OT, Educational Psychologist.
  • To signpost SEND students and staff to alternative means of internal or external financial, equipment, technological, and service related support to enhance their learning experience and transition arrangements.
  • To monitor delivery of support, ensuring that learners receive the levels indicated in their support plan and that Cambridge Regional College is working within funding allocation to include, but not limited to:
  • Human resources
  • Assistive technologies
  • Equipment and physical resources
  • External/Internal specialist services including those within the local authority and subcontracted professionals
  • Strategies and techniques
  • To monitor the progress of EHCP students with regard to their academic and nonacademic experience directly (by first hand observation and questioning) and indirectly (using witness testimonies and college records), and provide appropriate intervention to ensure a successful outcome.
  • To work collegiately with staff and external professionals at meetings involving prospective or current EHCP learners to support positive outcomes, including but not limited to:
  • parents/progress evenings
  • welcome events
  • interviews
  • taster days
  • investigative/disciplinary meetings
  • PEP reviews
  • CAFs
  • Annual EHCP Reviews
  • To contribute towards the preparation, delivery, recording and communication of EHCP reviews in accordance with statutory deadlines. The employee will chair Annual EHCP reviews as directed.
  • To ensure that the college's data base, such as EBS, ATLAS, ProMonitor and Vital, accurately reflect learner's SEND and EHCP outcomes, set up appropriate cohort groups to support effective tracking and monitoring.
  • To support managerial roles and the department's SAR by collecting, processing and reporting data by working directly with learners and using records including college information systems such as VITAL, ATLAS, ProMonitor, student files and electro
  • To champion the aspirations of students and college policy with regard to the promotion and implementation Equality & Diversity developments by publicising and supporting (leading as directed) awareness raising and training events to CRC prospective students, students and CRC staff.
Special conditions or working arrangements applicable to this role are;
Due to the nature of the post, the postholder is required to hold an enhanced DBS disclosure check deemed acceptable to the College and to be re-checked every 4 years.
