Job Description


The EHS Team are responsible for providing the manufacturing and R&D sites at Ware (Hertfordshire) with a framework to effectively manage Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) risks across the sites. This incorporates a wide range of issues including: assessment of EHS risk; formulation of policies and procedures to comply with legal & company standards; setting of EHS objectives and targets; performance monitoring; environmental / waste management; emergency planning; incident and accident investigation and crisis management.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to one of the EHS Leads, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective safety, health and environmental management systems across the Ware campus. This includes the provision of technical advice and assistance to managers and staff to enable EHS performance to be managed effectively (and contributing towards achieving the Ware site vision and commercial objectives). Specifically, you will be responsible for ownership of waste management processes and environmental assessment & monitoring processes across the campus.

Day to day your role will include the development, dissemination, implementation, monitoring and review of campus\xe2\x80\x93wide or department specific EHS procedures and practices. You will provide authoritative EHS advice taking account of statutory and corporate requirements and as well as business objectives. In delivering your role you will maintain effective and constructive relationships with key EHS stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, GSK corporate functions, contractors and suppliers. You will build strong rapport with key operational staff in order to provide effective advice and assistance in order to ensure the campus maintains an audit-ready status at all times.

We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced professionals with NEBOSH qualifications (either at Certificate or Diploma level) and those with a background in Environmental management.

About You:

This role would suit a self-motivated individual who has strong experience of working in an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) role. You will also be resilient and calm under pressure. Strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve objectives and drive performance are considered fundamental to the role. You will be a proactive team player and have a strong continuous improvement mindset.

Basic Qualifications:

Relevant experience of working in a regulated technical industry with relevant qualifications in Scientific or Technical discipline (or strong equivalent experience).

NEBOSH Certificate or similar qualification in occupational health & safety

IEMA or NEBOSH qualification in Environmental management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Operational knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes (from a highly-regulated industry).
