Are you a developer who is interested in leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) with bespoke data sets to create cutting-edge web applications? Our friendly and welcoming Digital Learning Applications and Media (DLAM) team are looking for a web application developer to join their ranks and contribute to teaching and learning in a world-leading centre of academic excellence.

This role offers a salary of \xc2\xa337,099 - \xc2\xa344,263, depending on experience and benefits from a mixture of on-campus and home working. We are committed to offering flexibility so would be happy to consider flexible working options, i.e. compressed hours or staggered start/finish times.

The Opportunity:

The eLearning Systems Developer will:

  • Automate the data transformation for a strategic and operational management information (MI) Online Course dashboard to help our course teams and University management to make informed decisions
  • Work on the creation of generative AI tools to support our learners. This work might include developing tools such as intelligent chatbots to provide helpful, 24/7 support for key services, tools to help summarise the content of recorded materials or caption/transcription tools to use AI for improved accuracy.
  • Independently evaluate the opportunities and risks of new approaches to developing web applications.
  • Advise colleagues on their recommended approaches to successfully resolve novel problems.
  • Work as part of a small team of friendly, experienced web developers and have the opportunity to work on both group and solo projects.
Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Experience in building, maintaining and testing web applications using web technologies such as PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL and testing frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT
  • An understanding of relevant regulations and standards.
  • Enthusiasm for new technology, along with an understanding of the opportunities and challenges around AI would also be beneficial.

The Learning, Teaching & Web Services Directorate (LTW) brings together technology enhanced learning, e-learning, the University website, web services, graphics, multimedia, digital skills training and classroom technology teams to support learning, teaching and outreach for an enhanced student experience.
We provide a wide range of technology and support services for innovative learning and teaching, including classroom tools, virtual learning environment (VLE), blended learning, bespoke development, online video, open educational resources (OER), taught online Masters programmes, massive open online courses (MOOCs), feedback and assessment. We manage the continuing expansion and diversification of the University website, student portal, and provide digital technology services in 400 teaching rooms and study spaces across the campus.
Every year we host student internships, projects and events which promote innovation and align with the University strategic aims to promote new ways of working in learning, teaching and research.
