Job Description

Hours of work: 16 hours, standard split-shift pattern, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays - all split shift 9am to 11am and 2.30pm to 4.30pm (total 4 hours per day)

Short-term contract: This is a short-term contract to 31 December 2025 due to business need.

Salary: Real Living Wage 12.60 per hour (10,483.20 p.a.)

Holidays: pro-rata FTE of 30 days, including 10 public holidays

Location: 420 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, EH10 5HY and on the road

Reporting to: Day Services Manager

Purpose of Job

To provide safe transport for vulnerable older people, as part of the day services staff team.

Service users feel respected and valued Service users are safely transported to and from their homes
Main Duties:

To drive The Open Door's Electric Minibus as required. The vehicle has 8 passenger seats and a wheelchair lift. To provide any necessary assistance for passengers before, during, or after travel, consistent with their transport needs To ensure passengers travel safely and comfortably To charge the vehicle Taking responsibility for the daily upkeep of their vehicle and equipment, including basic maintenance and cleanliness. Defect reporting is required The completion of necessary paperwork and administration To undertake any induction and training as required To assist in training for other staff and volunteer drivers / escorts when required Any other reasonable duties, including overtime cover, as directed by the Day Service Manager

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications - must be over 25 years of age and hold a full driving licence with up to a maximum of 3 points for at least two years Good communication skills
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Previous experience of supporting older people / working in a similar role Experience of working with people living with dementia Manual handling training First Aid Training
Driving assessment

The candidate will have to complete a driving assessment and if successful complete MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training. Other training includes first aid, manual handling and disability awareness.

This role is subject to successful driving licence check, references and PVG check
