Associate Electrical Design Engineer - Newcastle - Competitive Salary + Benefits





A key client of mine is currently looking for Electrical Design Engineers (Building Services) to join their growing Newcastle team. This is a senior role with responsibility for leading the design and delivery of electrical building services across a range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, and healthcare.



You'll play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to completion, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and representing the business in client and design team meetings.



Key Responsibilities



Undertake the design of electrical building services, including schematic layouts, drawings, and supporting calculations. Carry out detailed design tasks such as: + Building load assessments + Cable calculations and sizing
+ Internal and external general/emergency lighting design (Relux/Amtech/Hevacomp)
+ Containment selection and sizing
+ Selectivity studies and protective device specification
+ Transformer selection and fault current analysis
Prepare and deliver technical reports, specifications, and design documentation. Monitor on-site works and provide technical support throughout construction. Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions. Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to colleagues; lead technical seminars for junior engineers. Stay up to date with regulatory standards and ensure compliance with company quality and safety systems. Ensure CAD/Revit outputs meet company standards and project requirements.

What We're Looking For



5-10 years' experience in electrical building services design within consultancy. Strong background in commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects. Practical knowledge of design, operation, and commissioning of building services technologies. Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit (2D/3D). Experience of site monitoring, installation review, and handover protocols. Detailed understanding of building regulations and compliance requirements. Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear reports in plain English. Client-focused, able to represent the company effectively in meetings.

Qualifications



Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent). Professional qualification (IEng/CEng) and membership of relevant body (CIBSE or equivalent).
