Part time considered, consistent hours/days each week required
Description:
Simon Dean have achieved great success with our M&E designs by applying ourselves and get the best outcome for our client.
Our projects are generally smaller in nature however need to be compliant and submitted to the client to allow the installation works to progress.
Designs are predominantly part of Design and Build schemes which we are awarded however there are instances where we may undertake Design Only works.
We are looking for an electrical design engineer to join our team and deliver the following aspects (which are broken down in more detail below):
Technical support for our Lead Engineers.
Preparation of design submissions for existing Rail, Port & Industrial clients.
Technical Support
Provide technical support for existing small works projects providing guidance inline with BS7671 to Lead Engineers where projects may fall outside of everyday scope.
Liaison with senior management team to support; technical bid proposals and business change management.
Design Submissions
Designs typically consist of (but are not limited to) railway station & platform lighting renewals, rail depot power distribution upgrades and electric vehicle charging schemes.
Projects are predominantly electrically bias with some supporting minor civils and mechanical elements which need to be encompassed within our proposal. (We would expect the designer to cover these aspect)
Our internal design systems are based around the principals of Network Rail's Engineering Assurance standards. (Training can be provided)
We review and assess existing installations onsite and draw together gathered information to support our design proposal.
Proposals are typically design and build with a focus on minimising unknowns for our own installation teams and the client at the installation stage.
You would be responsible for preparing the following documentation for internal review and comment, prior to it being issued to the client for external review and comment.
Design Proposal
Designers Risk Assessment
Design Decision Log
Drawings (AutoCAD)
Cable Calculations (Trimble / ElectricalOM)
Inter Disciplinary Check
Engineering Compliance Certificate
Success with existing designs has come from applying our knowledge to the life cycle of the project and considering future proposals and maintenance factors.
We enjoy a collaborative working relationship with our clients which we wish to flourish further with the strengthening of our design team.
Recent projects have benefitted from 3D LIDAR scanning which we wish to develop the use of further within both our design and installation projects.
In addition to this, support is required to update existing Single Line Drawings and updating of 'As Built' drawings for current projects.

Manage engineering and development activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost, quality and compliance.
Manage the development of suitable engineering options for proposals so that full consideration is given to safety, reliability, operational capacity modelling, maintainability, ease of construction and environmental / whole life issues. Review compliance with standards and maintain designer's competency.
Prepare the full engineering data package required for commencement of the detailed design and participate in answering on-going clarifications/queries as needed. Where applicable, manage independent checking of safety critical design documentation.
