Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled HV Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Norwich. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs for HV substations, switchgear, and control systems. This role involves close collaboration with project managers, commissioning engineers, and clients to ensure high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities
Develop HV electrical design packages including SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts
Design protection and control systems in accordance with IEC, IEEE, and client-specific standards
Prepare technical documentation including specifications, design calculations, and reports
Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and client requirements
Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors
Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and project planning
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standard
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 5 years' experience in HV electrical design (substations or utility-scale projects preferred)
Strong knowledge of HV switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and control systems
Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar design software
Familiarity with IEC/IEEE standards and utility specifications
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards
Desirable Skills
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
Experience with protection relay configuration (GE, ABB, Siemens, Schneider)
Knowledge of SCADA systems and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3)
Experience in control panel design and integration
