Electrical Designer / Electrical Design Engineer - Water & Utilities - North West England (Hybrid)

The Role

As an Electrical Designer (E&I), you'll be responsible for producing detailed electrical installation and instrumentation designs that meet industry standards and client specifications. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll help deliver essential infrastructure projects across the UK.


You'll design and develop electrical layouts, schematics, and cable schedules using AutoCAD, Amtech (Trimble), Revit, and other leading design tools -- ensuring compliance with BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).


This role offers the chance to work on technically challenging and meaningful projects, where your work directly contributes to improving water and energy systems nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

Produce high-quality electrical and instrumentation design deliverables (2D/3D layouts, containment routing diagrams, loop diagrams, and cable calculations). Ensure all designs meet BS7671 and project-specific requirements. Conduct site surveys and support installation and commissioning teams. Collaborate with internal mechanical, process, civil, and HVAC engineers to integrate designs. Review subcontractor and supplier documentation for accuracy and compliance. Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within design and project delivery.

About You

HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical or related Engineering discipline. Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, E&I Designer, or similar within the water, wastewater, or utilities sectors. Strong understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671 - 18th Edition). Working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015. Experience in hazardous area design, intrinsically safe systems, and inspection schedules. Skilled in AutoCAD LT, Trimble (Amtech), Relux/Dialux, and Microsoft Office. Experience with Aveva, Navisworks, or Revit is an advantage.
