We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer with proven experience in the design and development of low voltage (LV) switchgear systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle design process -- from concept through to production and installation -- ensuring compliance with UK standards and client specifications.

The role will be based full time at our offices in Watford, UK.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop
LV switchgear systems
(typically up to 1000V AC) for a range of applications in line with BS EN 61439 and other relevant standards.
Produce detailed
schematics, wiring diagrams, GA (general arrangement) drawings
, and
BOMs (Bill of Materials)
using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
Specify electrical components such as
, PLCs, etc., suitable for project and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with
project managers, panel builders, clients
, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and schedule goals.
Carry out
design calculations
for cable sizing, fault current, load flow, and thermal management.
Ensure compliance with UK electrical standards and regulations (e.g.,
BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations
,
BS EN 61439
, CE/UKCA marking).
Provide technical support during
manufacturing, installation, and commissioning
stages.
Conduct
design reviews
and assist in value engineering and continuous improvement activities.
Maintain up-to-date documentation and revision control of all design outputs.
Essential Qualifications
Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification by experience.
Proven experience in LV switchgear design, ideally within the UK market.
Familiarity with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) and BS EN 61439 standards.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software.
Experience working with form 2, 3, or 4 assemblies, busbar configurations, and enclosure systems.
Strong understanding of protection coordination, control circuits, and metering.
Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience with PLC integration and control panel design.
Familiarity with panel manufacturing processes and workshop practices.
Awareness of switchgear design considerations, including IP ratings, EMC considerations, and thermal performance.
