We are seeking an Electrical Design Manager to join our Energy Engineering Team in the UK. This key role will support the design development of an extensive and diverse pipeline of decarbonisation projects, spanning utility-scale solar, electrification of heat and innovative energy efficiency retrofit solutions.

The Electrical Design Manager will lead the in-house electrical design function, working closely with other discipline leads within the engineering team, construction and commercial teams, external supply-chains and clients.

You will join an established team of energy engineering experts, entirely focused on engineering solutions to support our clients in the transition to net zero carbon. The team sits within the Energy Solutions division of the group, which collectively brings industry-leading skills, knowledge and expertise to build and operate innovative decarbonisation solutions. With our extensive and successful track record in pioneering innovation in this rapidly growing sector, the team is expanding to support the delivery of both existing and emerging opportunities.

Key activities

  • Lead the electrical design packages associated with a portfolio of energy projects in the UK, including low-voltage and high-voltage (to 33kV) systems
  • To \'project manage\' the design process from concept to construction stage, supervising in-house and external design engineers
  • Lead the commissioning of insourced / outsourced design and specialist consultancy, through the preparation of technical briefs, design scopes and performance specifications
  • Undertake design feasibility studies and engineering options appraisals for decarbonisation projects, working alongside other discipline leads
  • Support clients and team members in the identification of new technologies and design solutions to meet project objectives
  • Assist in the delivery of Principal Designer duties (reference CDM)
  • Manage processes for new electrical connections to the distribution network, including preparation of ENA EREC G99, G100, G5-5, P28 and PGMD
  • Ensure compliance with the connection agreements, as well as wider Distribution Network Operator design standards
  • Interrogate and optimise solar PV designs to enhance yields, performance ratios, availability / resilience, buildability / maintainability
  • Assist in the development of Commissioning Plans, Integrated Test Plans, Quality Acceptance Test Plans etc
  • Manage and maintain design technical compliance with Employer\'s Requirements, statutory requirements and relevant design standards
Skills, experience & qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master\'s degree in applicable Engineering or Sciences
  • A minimum of 10 years\' experience in electrical design engineering
  • Expertise in the design of high-voltage and low-voltage systems
  • Experience in working with or on behalf of DNOs and ICPs
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and coordinating design processes and teams
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial standards / guidance\'s / good practice, regulatory frameworks
  • Knowledge of broader construction legislation / regulations
  • Sound knowledge of current solar PV technologies, design techniques and markets
  • Proficient in the use of standard industry design tools, such as AutoCAD, ProDesign / Amtech, DigSilent (or other relevant software packages)
  • Experience in the use of standard industry design management tools, such as AutoDesk Build, View For Projects,
  • Proficient in the use of standard software, such as Microsoft Office
