We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Engineers at the 420th Force Support Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a professional Electrical Engineer performing operations and maintenance engineering duties in support of the military installation. Duties will include design, and construction that encompasses the maintenance, repair, upgrade, and operation of infrastructure facilities and utility systems. You will plan, program, budget, and execute required projects in support of the assigned programs, and perform planning and design work for substantial sustainment, modernization, repair, improvement, renovation, and construction projects for real property facilities, and utility systems. You will manage projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities and maintain surveillance over in-house labor or construction contractors of electrical engineering to ensure overall compliance with project requirements. In addition, you will provide consulting services and project coordination and collect data and evaluate factors which affect the application of concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to observe, examine, measure, analyze, map, and describe physical and technical features and phenomena. You will work in compliance with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures, performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Professional knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
2. Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices, and techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations; of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures as it relates to facilities engineering; knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and/or technical orders; of environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues; of work classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of appropriated and non-appropriated funds.
3. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions; and knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budget systems and management.
4. Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and technique / skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings.
5. Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspection; to analyze, interpret, and apply results, rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
6. Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. A valid motor vehicle operator's license (Category B) is required.
6. You may act as project liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies as required. You may be required to serve on A&E selection boards. You must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position. You will have up to 24 months to meet the applicable mandatory experience, education, and training requirements.
7. This position requires the use of a hand-held two-way radio or alternative method of on-site communication.
8. Your hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed schedule (Monday-Friday 0800-1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.
