The Electrical Engineer/Estimator is responsible for both the technical design and cost development of electrical construction projects. This hybrid role combines engineering expertise with estimating skills to support design-build proposals, project planning, and successful execution of electrical systems for commercial facilities. Working alongside the procurement team to maintain budgets and project forecasts.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design (Technical Role)
Develop electrical system designs including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
Prepare engineering calculations
Coordinate with engineers, and subcontractors.
Support construction teams with RFIs, submittal reviews, field changes, and engineering clarifications.
Estimating & Pre-Construction (Cost Role)
Interpret drawings, specifications, and scope documents to create accurate electrical estimates.
Perform detailed material and labour take-offs for power, lighting, low-voltage systems, and equipment.
Obtain vendor/supplier quotations for major equipment and specialty systems.
Develop cost models, budgets, and design-build proposals at all project stages (conceptual, schematic, 100%).
Analyse labour productivity, construction sequences, and installation methods to create realistic estimates.
Participate in value engineering to optimise cost without compromising quality.
Assist with bid presentations, scope reviews, and subcontractor evaluations.
Qualifications
Experience in electrical engineering, estimating, or a combination of both.
Strong understanding of NIC and industry standards.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and construction documents.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
