This position is a hands-on engineering management role within a fast-paced food production environment. You will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities, lead a multi-skilled engineering team and ensure that all site machinery, plant and services operate safely, efficiently and in line with legislative requirements. Around 60-70% of the role will involve practical, on-the-floor engineering work.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, motivate and support the engineering team to deliver site engineering KPIs and contribute to wider business performance.
Support the recruitment, development and retention of skilled engineering personnel.
Prioritise engineering workloads, allocating tasks effectively to maximise productivity and minimise downtime.
Ensure all plant and equipment are maintained to statutory requirements and industry standards.
Identify faults promptly and carry out effective repairs to maintain safe and reliable production operations.
Develop an efficient engineering stores and spare parts system.
Promote best practice, emerging technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure all activities comply with food safety legislation, internal policies and audit requirements.
Uphold high standards of GMP and housekeeping across the site.
Reduce waste and support continuous improvement across engineering and production.
Ensure all completed work meets hygiene, safety and legislative standards.
Complete daily documentation, reports and maintenance records accurately and on time.
Collaborate with senior management on engineering and operational requirements.
Drive personal development through training and on-site experience.
Lead the implementation of preventative maintenance schedules and engineering risk assessments.
Contribute to the Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP and VACCP teams as required.
Ensure all machinery operates at optimal speeds with minimal disruption to production.
Take responsibility for site engineering health and safety.
Provide on-call support and work flexibly to meet operational demands.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
Recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Strong practical knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems
16th/17th Edition (or equivalent)
Excellent communication, leadership and team-motivation skills
Strong planning, organisation and project management capability
Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving ability
High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Proven ability to manage engineering workloads in a fast-paced production environment
Desired Qualifications & Experience
Food hygiene training
Previous experience as an Engineering/Maintenance Manager within food manufacturing
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
